No idea, don't have an engine oil temp gauge, all I know is that it takes water from the water pump, circulates around the modine/oil filter then returns the water to the block.

Funny man.

However, when I brought my 85 quattro out of storage and drove it into the shop the EG33 started running on five cylinders. Then, when I brought my wife's Mazda in for a service at started running on four. Only after I parked it next to my 4.0 Cherokee did it start running on six cylinders again. Maybe there's something to your theory.

I'd like it to stay below 250F during and between autocross runs. Right now it's nudging 250 on the freeway at 75 whcich makes me think it will get much hotter during events in the summer. Gauge stops at 250F so if it goes off the gauge I can't tell what it is.

Re: Engine Oil Temperature

I'm curious now: What are typical oil temps like for other cars/engines?

Re: Engine Oil Temperature

What would it take to add an oil cooler to a US model? Do we need a special water pump? Is there a plugged port in the block that would need to be removed so the coolant can make a complete circuit?

I just ordered a Derale kit. It includes the oil cooler, pipes, fittings and a sandwich plate that fits between the oil filter and the block to provide the tapping ports for the cooler.

It's going behind the slots I cut in my front bumper:
