glass headlights

I was reading another post that the headlights in the UK are glass not plastic like the US market. Could the UK lens be used on the US cars or would the light pattern be off since in the UK they drive on the otherside of the road. If this would be the case, which I think it is, what other country had glass lens with the proper light pattern for the US?

Re: glass headlights

German cars had glass lights and are LHD so if you can get some from there they will work.

Only, so far no one HAS been able to get a set from what I've seen, and IIRC it has the electric headlight adjustments, so you might need to add that stuff in to get a proper leveling done.

It seems like back in those times most of the european headlights are glass and anyday I will prefer glass headlights over plastic lens, ofcourse they are costly, but they produce very clean and crisp light beam even after many years. Both my Alfas came with glass headlights (american version, non projected beam), but I replaced them with electronic leveling european projected beam headlights (with __/ __/ beam pattern and Narva Rangepower +50s) and they are great. I just used a POT to control the electrical leveling motors from inside (the interior trim pieces are hard to find and pricey). If you can get a set, get them you wont be disappointed.

Re: glass headlights

I've done extensive research on this subject. Unfortunately, ive misplaced all my notes, and have to do it by memory...

As far as the Dip goes, it can be set either way (so it doesnt matter if its UK or German). But different countries use different bulbs. That is also something you can rip apart though (to fit your own). Some also dont have fog lights. But that also has possibilities for retrofitting.

In the end, I came to the conclusion, that if I can get glass headlights, ANYWHERE, get them. Afterwards, you can retrofit them to suit your taste, and there would be no compromise needed.

A word of warning though, not all glass headlights are equal. There is a member here who bought one at a time. When he finally had a pair, one was pitted from tailgating. and the other was crystal clear.

There is also a member who has the old Motorsports Silver car. That had glass headlights as well.

Re: glass headlights

#@$(*&@#$(*&^#@$ blah! Is this workable?
Can they mount into our housings? I doubt it...
Casing repairable w/ epoxy?
is the height adjustment motor still sound?
Does it come w/ electronics needed for height adjustment?

Just a few questions...

Re: glass headlights

This is very interesting and food for thought.

I sent Rinus (in the Netherlands) a PM about the headlights and also said this:

200 Euros = $256.37 each, plus 19% VAT, for a total of $305.08 each plus shipping

Thats $20.00 less than subaruparts.com wants for our headlights!!

But you don't get fog lights...

But you do get GLASS lenses... and supposedly a little more light.

Re: glass headlights

Are you absolutely positive there would be no way to retrofit a pair of our foglights into their housings?

Obviously with enough money, you can, or if you are willing to hack them up, but I was under the impression that it was simply a block off plate that could be removed and lamps installed in the same housing.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

James

Re: glass headlights

I have retro-fitted fogs into mine only took a couple of hours, hardest part was wiring to dash switch.

I have a "how to do" PDF that I could share with others, only issue is that it is 2.5MB so to big to post here ?.

Can I email to someone to post on the forum.
