Angry NEEDED: Passenger Rear Quarter Panel

I am desperate need of a passenger quarter panel, someone hit my car while it was parked and trashed my panel from under the light to above the wheel.
Let me know how much and what shipping to 49684 is. Thank you
Help me keep a SVX alive

1stsubaruparts.com has new panels for $290. Probably better to get a new one, since I don't know if any of the guys on here really want to go through the massive amount of work to remove an old one properly.

For $300 a new part is a better deal than a used one.

Sorry to hear this. Chris is right, a new panel is the way to go.

Have you spoken to a body shop, and are they aware that the rear screen has to come out, and the side rear glass has to come out to replace this panel?

Unless your original panel is very badly buckled, they are likely to tell you it will be better to repair the old panel. [Assuming it can be repaired of course]

The possibility of damaging or breaking your glass will be high, and the cost of labour.........

You pays your money, and you takes your choice.

Get a new panel. Nothing sucks quite like used body parts, let alone rear quarters...Take it from yet another guy who knows

Hrmmm, I am very handy with fiberglass I've been mowing over the idea of cutting it out replacing it with screen and fiberglassing then bondo'ing it, what do you think? A new one still has to be welded in and the risk of glass is high too...

I do believe a good body shop can cut out the damaged areas, and cut the same piece from an old or new panel to replace the damaged area. Then they tack it in place, line everything up, and braze it in place. Then the usual grinding, and surface prep, followed by paint
You may want to check into this before you go with doing the fiberglass and Bondo. Being a unibody car first off could lead to cracking of the fiberglass and Bondo. Second, unless you are really good with glass, im not sure you would get the results you are looking for. Either way, let us know about your findings.

It is an extremely big panel, and part of the structural integrity.

I like Upnorth's idea better.

I suppose it depends how much harm was done to the original. Did the body shop express a preference, or are you going it alone? Taking out the glass would be the bit I would not care for.

My car needs significant rust repair along the body line and rear wheel wells. The way I'm probably going to go is buy new panels, let the body shop cut out the bad spots on the old ones, cut the new ones to match, and weld in the new parts.

...no fiberglass. Fiberglass just dosnt bond to metal like that...and if you DO get it to look nice, itll crack where the fiberglass meet the metal over time.
How demolished is the panel? Have any pictures? if it isnt a pull n fill, seriously consider replacing the whole panel with a new one if you can afford it.

most body shops can do the "cut and paste" method. This is a method that has been used since the stone age. It is a completely acceptable repair method, in fact they teach this method in auto body school. All the classic car builders do it, and it is by far cheaper than replacing the whole panel. Besides, the glass replacement if it gets broken is far more expensive $$$$ than the whole body job would cost. Even if you did get the glass out intact, there is a very good chance it will leak after it is reinstalled. Just my 2 cents though.

Fiberglassin

I was wondering about the fiberglassing, usually what i would do in this case is take flexible metal screen, rivet it in, and hit it with fiberglass to get the shape then bondo and paint. Integrity and strength on a uni-body I didnt really think about tho so... Im pretty sure panel is going to have to be cut, and I was thinking of the cut & paste method but finding a panel hasnt been easy, the local junkyard wants too much money even if I come and cut it myself..

The bullet holes are from a panel puller I tried.

That should be a clean straight forward fix. Perfect area for cut and paste Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
