GRRR indeed. I have no quibs about Subbie quality myself. I've seen 5 Subaru's go in and out of my driveway (97, 00 Outbacks, 03, 05 Forresters, and an 04 Impreza), and I still know where 4 of them are. Granted the most experience I have with any is the 03 Forrester, and we only had the Impreza for a couple months...But I've never seen anything questionable. My Taurus on the other hand....ya, another story.

Big agreement on the paint. Both Forresters here have some nasty scratches from what should have been nothing.

My '97 Outback has had pretty good quality. Not great just good.
I think that the paint is too thin and too brittle.
But, so are my bones as I get older.

I can actually remember back to a time when my waist was thin and my hair was thick.

As for paint...Its all junk. There isnt a new car manufacture out there that you can have a good factory paint job for under $100k. Ever look at a new chevy truck? Woah! Land rover could test it's suspension on that orange peel. Cant forget nissan's uncanny tendancy to get loaded with chips. Prettymuch every car manufacturererer had their bumpers and molding painted at diffrent places..Most of the time the color isnt even close.
As far as I'm concerned the only good paint jobs are from before they made HPLV guns illegal, or the ones you wet sand and buff out between coats.

Wait. Oh, I mean..

Grrr!! Paint sucks!! All paint is horrible, except for the one vehicle I find superior to all! (The ford econoline van, circa 1983) Grrrr, cars all suck! Paint sucks! vacume cleaners suck!!! I hate everyone Im not talking to anyone again forever buhbye!

Not angry at all, just willing to speak the truth. Paint is just one example. Body panel fit is yet another but I guess you're gonna blame that on the enviorment too.

New American made Subies are nothing but crap over all in my experinence as well as Car and Drivers and a host of other long term testers.

As for the paint though. That Suzuki SX4 I looked at last month had nary an orange peel on it and stickered for well less than a not-so-impressive!

To me it'd be different if Subaru was selling in the 20-25k range instead of the 25-40k range. That is a big difference in the players!

Alan, you are singin' my song. Red-headed stepchild indeed.

The Impreza WRX and Sti has in stages gone from a car that was the absolute dog's bo££ox up to about 1995 or '96, to the last few models which are just plain dogs.

They can design a handsome car like the current Legacy and Legacy wagon. What stylistic blindness comes over them when it comes to the Impreza?

People will continue to migrate over to the Evo V11 to X models, and stay migrated.

Who wants to be seen rumbling around in a car that looks like a metal dose of the mumps on wheels?
