she originally wanted an SUV, so i suggested the Honda Pilot, but now its teh Hemeh.

I don't know about the 300C, but the Dodge Magnum runs like stink and brakes and handles quite well considering its size. I instructed a fellow at autocross with one, and I was impressed. Quite a car, but it is also over $30K. And would I like to have one? YEAH!!

They didn't on the Magnum, which is a 300 C with a stationwagon body.

Well it is a car that weighs in the upper 3k's, so I would imagine braking is not spectacular.

The only complaint I have is that is U-G-L-Y. Oh, and it's a Chrysler.

It's ugly and the ESP system takes ALL the fun out of it. Funny no one mentioned the mileage!

A quote on the Magnum from another forum:
Quote:
ya you can turn the ESP off, but the problem with the magnum (and most bigass domestics these days) is it's such a numb and disconnected feel that you can't tell when the tires are spinning. that plus it being an automatic makes it very difficult to guage what's going on way back there.

Only issue I know of is that it is a Dodge. Regardless of how good it is, unless it is a Ram Diesel its value will plummet faster than she can make payments. The Pilot is afabulous vehicle but I'm happy she doesn't "need" an SUV regardless.

For the size it does handle decent although it won't outhandle a Caprice Police package with a good driver on an autox course from what I've seen. Just don't let her get a "Does it got a hemi" shirt. Remind her that once Dodge's patent ran out on the hemi not a single other car maker started making one.

NOT A HEMI....
namely the hemi name refers to the hemispherical heads that used to be used on the cars but now they use a convetional dome type just like everybody else

that's the thing - she really DOES need an SUV. she constantly has relatives and friends going to Florida to stay with her that need picked up from the airport with their luggage, etc., then trips to the theme parks, out to dinner....

she likes "fun" cars (has an Audi TT now, and uses my stepdad's MB for all the "transporting." i even think the *gasp* Tribeca would fit her needs, but this 300C came out of nowhere.

If she has her heart set on one of these honkers, the Dodge Magnum is the way to go.

Oh, and both the 300C and Magnum have available AWD now...fwiw.

She could take a look at the new Bonneville GXP. Much more stylish and much higher quality. Or if she wants teh power, the Grand Prix GXP will be out in two months with the 5.3l V8 (305hp). It was supposed to be AWD at release time, but i'm thinking they may save that for next year. As for an SUV, the GMC Envoy is much more nicely appointed than the Honda, and just as economical. More expensive though.

Just some suggestions from another American company.
