Clutch packs?

We (Danny and I) are thinking the clutch packs are wore out?
Something like that.
It pops into reverse and rolls hard, but when it's in drive, you have to take it to 2k to get moving.
Pop it in "1" and it shifts into reverse and lurches back a bit, hit the gas and it slides forward very slowly.
It doesn't have much trouble after it's moving, but it won't shift. I can't even tell what gear it's in at 50mph, but it's revving about 3k.

Things get any worse and i WILL have to declare it a total loss.
I don't want to do that.

So what does the problem sound like? Speaking of sound, there is a faint scratching sound while driving. I can only hear it with the window down.

This is not how I envisioned making my 1000th post...

Took it to the place Danny referred me to, and they're like "We don't do Subarus anymore, go to this place ->".

So I go to that place.
It looks nicer inside.
Chrome trannies on the wall.
Leather couch.
The receptionist is hot.
I say "Fix my car". She glances at it and says "The SVX?"
We make a date.
It's probably going to cost me. Like serious.

Details Friday.

B&B Auto trans told me in about 5 minutes that I've lost half the drivetrain, and quoted me greater than 2k in repairs.

Took that info to Danny and the guy that sold that purple Mustang was there, and he directed me to another place, and this guy took about 30 seconds and told me the exact same thing.

Danny is going to get ahold of the guy that builds Shattered Skull's racing trannies and see if he can scrounge up that one lone junkyard SVX and help me out.

If I put his name on my car he'l do it for $150.
...
Not really.
You have to be on the team.
And my car is not fast enough.

On the way home that thing was thudding and thunking like crazy. I need to do something fast.

Oh yeah there was this black 04 STi with 3000 miles on it sitting in a park n sell lot, for $33k.
The sale guy said the owner was some old guy that didn't want to drive cars like that anymore.

I checked it out.
I don't like the shifter.
Way too stiff and not enough play.
Not comfortable either.
Piece of crap.

I'm posting because I feel bad seeing only you in here.

also, save the old tranny. Keep the valvebody and TC in case you feel like level10'ing it later. at the very least the TC could be worth a few bucks to someone on here who wants a modded TC but doesn't want to take theirs out and have a dead car for a few weeks while the work is being done.

also, good luck

If you have somebody replace the transmission with a rebuilt, though, it's likely that they won't let you 'keep' any of the old parts. You usually exchange those as a core, so if you want to keep your old tranny you'll have to pay a lot more money.

Unless you get a used tranny out of a yard or something.

That's the idea right now.
Find the one that is within a 100 mile radius, nab it, have that expert guy rebuild it or whatever, and somebody else we know can install it.
That's best case scenario.
Worst case I default on my loans owe lots of money and have to ride the bus a very long time.
That's if I don't get insurance.

I unplugged the battery for 4 hours at work.
Absolutely no effect on anything.

I went motorbike shopping yesterday for something to mob while the X is out of commision. Found a couple nice ones.

There is a 1976 Kawasaki KZ900 LTD goin for about 2Gs or so. Good deal? Bad?

I saw a 1988 300ZX turbo goin for $3999. Looked to be in decent condition aside from the salvage title.
Front end collision, insurance repaired, 110k miles.

91 Firebird in EXCELLENT condition with some chromies (prolly 15s or 16s) on the Lemon Lot on base. $5k.
Couple SRT-4s and a new Miata
A really old Porsche, and a 01 Trans-Am going for $32k. Some other junk, too.

Scratch the extra vehicle.
All extra income is being diverted to the tranny.
