They're just saying that the transmission needs the "anti shudder additive". I don't think it's related to the transfer clutch I had replaced. There's not AWD binding happening - this shudder is not at the wheels but feels underneath the car. The main sympton is the entire exhaust assembly can be felt and heard shaking. Hence the earlier mis diagnosis...

Ok, got the tranny flush done. They actually took the 'pan' off to look for sign of wear. i.e. metal particles. There was quite a bit must say. So maybe I'm skating on thin ice with this tranny...
The magnet that sits inside the pan near the plug had collected a thick metallic reisdue. Probably as much that it had doubled in effective size. Verdict? Opinions? They added the "anti shudder" additive, the shudder is still happening but they said it'll probably take a few hours of driving to mix in. I was surprised that they opted to add it to the pan not through the path that the transmission fluid is entered into. Anyway, I'll keep a close eye on everything... Cheers, Pete. |

Anti-shudder for the exhaust?
Hi Pete, The band adjust will just set the band back to the position that it was when the box was built. No reasion why it will not stay good for another 100 odd thousand ks. As you probable saw, the lining is very thick, to allow for it.
I must be missing something about the shudder. I don't see the relaitionship of the anti-shudder additive, to a noise in the exhaust. If it was a clutch plate or band shudder, then it should not make a difference if it is turning or running straight. As you know the Limited Slip clutch may bind when turning, but yours is ok. This sounds like it is more a drive line or half shaft problem. The fact that they "raised the back of the transmission" to fix it points to it being drive line. Don't be too paranoid about the amount of bits on the magnet, this what it is there for, been collecting bits since new. Its not the metal bits that cause concern, its the amount of lining bits that were in the pan and screen that tell the story. If there were a lot of lining pieces there, then there will be a lot in the cooler, that may block the flow. I don't know if this box had the same lining problem, that the US models had. So if they did not check the cooler flow for blockage, I would get them to do it, for peace of mind, its the last thing to check. If it is ok, then no worries, it will go for ever Harvey.

I had looked for CV's , resonator, heatshields or something first ......but, who knows ... /Sonny

I had an exhaust specialist already look for heatshields problems - the thing is the exhaust is not loose by any means, yet you can hear it shaking violently when taking off on an angle.
The CV's are still possible I guess - but it's not the sort of sound I have experienced in the past with CV problems on other cars... I thought maybe engine mount problem, but a stall test does not show significant vibration - plus wouldn't that be the same in a straight line? Another exhaust system problem suggestion was loose baffles, but that would definitely be happening all the time not just in corners. I actually think the shudder has lessened a bit, so who knows maybe they're on to something. I did find some information on this stuff via . Not sure how the resonator would fit in to these symptons?
