Re: judgement upon my SVX (long post):

Heh Heh.

Brings back memories of when I first got my SVX in'92.

Took it on vacation in May '93. May is not always great weather up here. We looked at the weather map on TV & decided to head for "A Sunny Spot" We had 2 weeks. By the time we got to a suitable spot we were in West Virginia! Lots of great curves & windy roads there. It was an absolute blast. No real need for too much braking in manual mode. One particular memory is of pulling into a roadside take out for lunch and upon stepping out of the car smelling the rubber of hot tires.

Thats when I really came to know that this car just fit me like a well worn leather jacket.

It was a great driving holiday. Unfortunately it WAS '93 and my car had not been recalled for the tranny filter. The transmission failed just as the 5 year warranty came up, which Subaru handled nicely. Perhaps it wasn't the tires I smelled after all.

Awesome story. It gave me goosebumps.... and to think, I just purchased one of these cars. I intend on keeping it on the road as long as possible, thank you for the inspiration.

Re: judgement upon my SVX (long post):

I have nothing but accolades for this well written "story," you could say. It very much reminded me of a few magazine articles I've read on the SVX, and it very much did the SVX justice. Thank you as well for bringing it up. I've only been on here just short of two years, and had never read it. I also recall how similar writer's tales usually start out not knowing what to expect from the SVX, but by the end there is not a car they would rather have been in. Funky windows? Fit the car perfect. Heavy? Don't tell the car, cause it doesn't know. H-6 engine with "only 230" hp.? They must have used really large horses.

This car is one that I believe is truly not appreciated until you've experienced it first-hand. Nay-sayers are quick with the "oh, they only came with automatics" or "but they're not even turbo" comments, but these are people that have clearly never been in the driver's seat of one of these beautiful machines. EVERY time I get out of this thing I have a smile on my face. Even if I've just been to the grocery store and back, it doesn't matter the length of the trip!

The SVX is a driving enthusiast's car, plain and simple. They are not without their share of problems, but what 15 year old car isn't? I certainly did not have the money at the time to buy one new (plus I would have been 12 when mine was originally made) but I am so, SOO glad that someone else had the good sense to buy my current Ebony Mica beast.

I love this car.

Re: judgement upon my SVX (long post):

Good to see this read is still appreciated. IMO, one of the best testaments to the SVX ever put to word.

Jim (seasvx) is indeed a gifted writer, never done it by trade, but I keep telling him over the years he needs to share more of it some way or another.

He's also obviously a true SVX enthusiast. He's not a frequent poster, but in the nearly 10 years I've known him as a fellow owner and friend we've had some great conversations and experiences with these cars.

Re: judgement upon my SVX (long post):

This reminds me of the same joy I got, when I first got into the drivers seat of my old 1990 Legacy Turbo Sport Sedan.

It was then, that I was hooked on Subaru, and everything they had to offer.

But... it wasn't untill I layed my eyes on an SVX for the first time, that I truly fell in love.

The Itialian Design, which I loved from my Lust for the old Lamborghini Countach. The True beauty which is AWD, and a Boxer Engine, with its amazing power and balance.

To me, there is no other car in the world, which has combined so many Beautiful and Functional Designs together, as the SVX has.

This is a great read for anyone, and it should Forever remain "sticky"... and thats my two cents

Re: judgement upon my SVX (long post):

This (OP) reminds me of the first time I glued my SVX to the back of another vehicle on the long mountain road from the nearest town back to my home in a small village where I took an IT job.

I saw the driver the next weekend at my Subaru dealership, he was the mechanic who worked on my car, and he was rather impressed that I kept up with his motorcycle through all the straights and the curves.

Re: judgement upon my SVX (long post):

Great story which I had not seen previously , loved it .

I just experienced again another superior aspect of the SVX , namely long distance cruising . I just drove a 92 SVX LS alone across country from Portland ,OR to Medina ,OH . Trip statistics were as follows :

Day1 - Portland to Mt Home ,ID mileage 488

Day 2 Mt Home to Little America ,WYO mileage 550

Day 3 Little America to Kearney,NEB mileage 622

Day 4 Kearney to South Bend ,IND mileage 745

Day 5 South Bend to Medina,OH mileage 284

Despite some obviously long days at the wheel the car was comfortable and I did not feel exhausted at days end . The car gobbled up miles with ease and what a wonderful way to see this great country as well !

Fuel consumption at fill ups ranged from 25.7 mpg in the mountains to as high as 30.4 mpg in the flatlands , all the while cruising at 75 to 80 mph ( with occasional bursts up to 100 in the Nevada desert ) with A/C on auto and ambient daytime temperatures between 80 and 90 F .

I have been an SVX owner for 11 years now ( the 92 is my third ) and every day I drive one I say " Wow, this is one great car !"

Alan .

I know the feeling. I love this car for long distance driving. I have driven 3,000+ miles in about 2.5 days and would not want to do it without the SVX. It is the best I have driven cross country.

Same thing for me. I drove a hair over 1,100 miles one day just about a month after I got the car, and sure I was tired.. but I honestly wanted to keep going, the car handled it beautifully!
