This is a common problem. You can replace the switch, if you can find one. I have seen posts that suggest going behind the glove box and finding the main control box and cleaning contacts. I replaced my switch, or rather, Subaru replaced mine under warranty. It lasted for about 85,000 miles and started displaying the same problem you have. I have learned to live with it. If you GENTLY slide the switch eventually it will take hold. Mine takes about three tries sometimes. Yeah, it's a pain in the butt, but it's a lot cheaper and less trouble than replacing the switch. I have to use the same gentle touch to get it to turn off. By the way, mine heals itself when the temperature gets below 40 degrees.

Do you mean that the switch will light up but using the set lever doesn't work?
If that's the case, then the vacuum hose has probably detached. Mine used to do that all the time until we put a very small hose clamp on it.

I'd be interested to know more about this too as my Cruise Control decided to stop working last night also. The switch on the dash lights when it's depressed but I can't engage the C/C from the paddle whichever way I push/pull it.

It's worked fine every time I've used it until last night, it gave no sign of failing in the lead up to this.

It's right at the top of the firewall on the driver's side.

My hose had fallen off too. Will test the CC out tomorrow to make sure it's cured.

Whilst I had my head under the bonnet I noticed a short rubber hose coming out from the top of the tranny that bent round at 180 degree angle (a little like a question mark '?') with the other end connected to nothing. Is this just a breather or has it come adrift from something?
