first gear only

My 92 with 68 k will not shift out of first gear and there is no slippage of clutches. Is this a low line pressure cause, solenoid "A" or solinoid 1, or vehicle speed sensor ? First and reverse are only operable gears. need input.

Could be a speed sensor problem, as it won't shift into 2nd if it isn't seeing any speed increase. Any codes?

Harvey.

Re: first gear only

is the car FWD or AWD? does the speedo work? if its FWD it is most likely the speed sensor, but if it is AWD than the rear speed sensor would send the signal for it to shift, (unless the FWD fuse is in) but the speedo will not work.

Re: first gear only

Yes the tach is working. When the engine is started the power light does blink for about 5 seconds . I will try a self trans diagnosis and see what comes up. I do have access to all the shop manuals. Thank-you for input. Steve

Re: first gear only

Any codes?.. If it is an AWD car, disconnect #2 speedo sensor (at the front dif ) drive it and see if it sets a speedo sensor code, if so, that means the TCU and all is functioning and will not tell you otherwise that the problem is in the trans and rebuilt it must be.

Count the blinks. These are you tcu codes. The fsm should be able to tell you what code it is, or you could do a search here.
