Muffler heat shield

Does the SVX really need the muffler heat shield? Has anyone taken theirs off and noticed any negative effects?

Thanks,

Ray

Re: Muffler heat shield

It's there for a reason. Why would you take it off, unless you were re-configuring the exhaust system?

If it rattles (say, when you close the trunk) look to see if there's an accumulation of bits of gravel in the lip along the edge.

Thanks for the reply. I was just being lazy trying not to fix/replace the heat shield since it was rattling. I am doing it right, I removed the muffle and replacing the shield; I am sure you are correct, "it is there for a reason."

Re: Muffler heat shield

I took mine off (most of the bolt holes had corroded away to about 1" wide) when I installed my exhaust. The trunk stays nice and warm, but not dangerously so.
