Stought manual crossmember
Hey everyone been a while been really busy. I am still getting a nasty shudder when acclerating from a stop. I would really like a better crossmember over the "modified" one that is in there now. Is anyone still making these on their jig? If so if you could let me know what they cost and then how much shipping is to
oldsmar florida 34677. Thank you very much! |

Re: Stought manual crossmember
In YT's writeup there is a pretty simple looking crossmember that looks fairly tough. It appears to use the front round tube brace and the original transmission mount with holes drilled in each to accept probably 1" od tubing then welded. Between the two are three pieces of steel cut and drilled to the appropriate specs. Tranny mount bolted to the top piece of steel, good to go.
I am waiting on my 2004 wrx crossmember and mount to come in, and hopefully it will bolt in and look something like the one in Earthworms setup with only a couple pieces of angle iron welded and drilled at the correct spots. I think I read somewhere he said he used all 2002 wrx pieces, hopefully my 2004 crossmember works as good as his 2002 crossmember looks like it did. http://svx-iw.com/pics/5speed/ If it doesn't look like I can make the wrx crossmember, I'll have to go for one like in YT's writeup. If you can't fab one up yourself, I'm pretty sure YT is selling them. |

Re: Stought manual crossmember
I be makin mine out of CNC machined 6061 aluminum
I'm actually serious. The long runners will be bent/welded tube steel, but the cross brace to the trans mount will be aluminum. I have a full machine shop at school, which I'm essentially free to use when there isn't someone more important than me there.
