Advantages of OBD II SVX?

Hi all - being a long time lover of my '93 legacy, I'm now looking at purchasing a 1994 SVX and I am wondering if there are any advantages to buying an OBD II ('96 and '97) model? For roughly the same mileage I am seeing prices of $2k-$3k higher for a '96 compared to a '94. I am planning on replacing the tranny with either a 5 MT or 6 MT if it ever croaks (I've had good results with the maintenance schedule I've kept on the 4EAT in the Legacy)and I don't know if an OBD I engine would play nice with a newer tranny. I live in CA, so emissions adherence is a must.

Other than that the only difference I've been able to find in my research is the lack of automatic seat belts on the newer models and some slightly better flowing parts of the trannys (by millimeters). If that's it than I would much rather have the advantages of OBD I (easy to check CELs and mod). Thanks in advance!!

FYI - a lot of us on the Legacy side of stolen your power mode button mod

FYI.

A manual swap in an OBD II SVX will throw a CEL. You are better off with a 95 or older if youd like to eventually go manual.

there were no real emissions changes either. just more equiptment monitoring if you will.

You can get away with more if it is OBDI.

That is right. I should have been clearer. In my state it is only a visual and a sniffer for OBD1 but for OBD2 its diagnostic (CELs, codes, readiness monitors, etc) with a visual and sniffer. On a modified car a visual is possibly passable if you ask the inspectors to let you pass as long as you pass the sniffer.
