Window mechanism went kaput?

My driver side window made a sharp cracking sound the other day and quit in the "up" position (thank goodness!). The motor still functions but no movement of the window itself. I didn't like the sound it made, pretty much know there was an internal part break but wondering if others have also had this kind of malfunction & what would you suspect as the "weak link" in the window mechanism?? Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated before I remove the panel & dig deeper.

Most likely the sleeve lock regulator, there is a write up in the "how to documents".


If not that, then your cable broke.
