at what point would a second battery be needed

im considering running 4 200w amplifiers (one audiobahn A2002T for both my back speakers, one audiobahn A2002T for both my front speakers and tweeters, and two basslinks)

would i need a second battery?

If you have the original alternator (95 amps) and your battery is about 12-14 volts, you have about 1200 watts to play with (I x E = P ). Just add up all your accessories to see if that’s enough. Also keep in mind, the speakers rating is it's peak. You probably won't go that high. Make sure your amp can also handle that output.

That 95 amps is the peak rating, it won't be putting that much out most of the time and would probably burn up in no time if it was required to. 4 200W RMS amps sounds a little excessive, unless you plan to enter a sound off competition, then they're probably a little on the puny side.

My SVX is on its second replacement alternator and I've only had about 300-400 watts RMS total between the various amps and no additional lights or other electrical loads. With the headlights on at stoplights, my system voltage hovers at around 11.5-12.5 volts, worse if the AC kicks in. Once on the move though, it rises to 12.7-13.7 volts. My suggestion would be that if you plan to cruise around in the city with 4 200W amps, install a second battery and have a spare alternator ready at home.

I run about 1900 watts RMS in my SVX. I'd suggest getting the Napa replacement alternator when you kill yours as its a 110 amp alt I believe. Also, a second battery only helps you when they are both fully charged. If you're constantly pulling current from them at a faster rate than it is being replaced, the only difference between one battery is that it will take slightly longer to kill both..

I'm sorting out a new electrical issue. I have warranties on both the battery and the alt so I need to figure out which one is faulty and which one is getting replaced for free

Instead of a second battery, purchase a high quality primary battery that has lots of AH. Check out the Odyssey batteries. They're millitary grade batteries, smaller in size, expensive and high quality! You can even get two small 12 volts that'll fit in the same tray!

Good luck.

Ali

ps that reminds me, I need to invest in hearing aid companies

the issue is 4, 200w amps are different than 1, 1200 w amp i am interested in the concept of the millitary batteries, or i wonder why they dont make batterys that fit in odd places, like a donut shaped battery for the inside of your spare tire or something
