Oh. Poo.

Well, here's the short version. I got the hardware in to transplant the Justy's 4-point harnesses into the MR2, so last night a friend came over to help me. We had to remove some things from the engine compartment (holes must be drilled through the firewall), and while I was taking hte battery out he said:

'Hey, that battery looks pretty old.'

So after he left I put the engine bay back together and the car wouldn't start. I was 95% positive the battery had 'died on the table,' but since I don't know the car well (only had it a week) I was a bit nervous.

I bought a new battery at Sam's this morning and the car started right up.

You didn't set the battery on concrete by any chance, did you? That could have taken the small amount of charge that was left. Glad you got it started, how are you enjoying the new car?

Also, could you pm me some details about your Justy?

Actually, I did set the battery on concrete for a couple of hours. You know, I've heard about this before - what's the deal?

I'll send you a PM right now.

Well, just looked it up to answer your question, and apparently its a myth !

Must have just been old or had some electrolyte leaking. If electrolyte is leaking it will react with the concrete and discharge the battery.

Got the PM, sent a reply.

It wasn't leaking anything...

Bah, who knows. Maybe one or more cells were on their last legs and the jostling did them in.

I had two options for a new battery at the same price. One was slightly larger than the one that I took out, but had a higher CCA rating. I considered sticking with the smaller battery for weight reasons. Once I got to the point of considering a winter battery and a separate summer battery, I decided it was time to get my ass to work. I put in the bigger one. I'd rather it starts reliably than weighs 5 pounds less.
