transmission swap

I recently submitted couple questions and got some really good responses and input. I know have another question or questions.

My 1992 SVX transmission is about gone from the sounds of it. I have read about using a transmission from another subaru model to replace the original one. I want to remain with the automatic. My questions are:

What automatic transmission will work for this? From what Subaru and what years? What is the differential ratio of my SVX? Would I need to swap differentials? I would prefer not to go with a lower ratio in order to keep the MPG at a decent level.

Thanks for your your help again.

Curt

if you don't want to replace the differential, and you wish to keep the automatic, your only choice is a rebuilt SVX transmission (or rebuilding of your existing transmission).

The SVX used a ratio in the diff's that are different than the other Subarus. The best you could do for a transplant is from a legacy sedan. I think the wagons used 4:11 diff's. I have been thinking about doing the same thing when the time comes. I also think that a lot of the parts in the Leagcy 4EAT are the same as the SVX. If you get enough of them, tear them apart and use the parts, if useable it may save you some money for a rebuild.

Significant Technical Input Registered SVX
The closest to stock gears offered in a Legacy, are the 3.90's in the 91-94 Legacy Turbo (the SVX's gears are 3.54's), and they also had the extra clutch pack just like the SVX tranny, so it is identical to the SVX except for the diff ratio's....

But the 4.11's are much easier (and cheaper)to come by....
