LT1 (350ci OHV V8 with MPFI) - used in 1993-1997 "Camarobirds" and 1992-1996 Corvettes. Rated at 285hp in the Camarobird and 300hp in the Vette. This is the one that had the ridiculous "Optispark" distributor that just blew goats. It's also the scary one to work on. Everything is in the way of everything. LT4 (350ci OHV V8 with MPFI) - used in 1994-1996 ZR1 and Grand Sport Corvettes. This was the LT1 on crack. Wicked cam and high flowing heads gave it 380hp, but still the ridiculous distributor and space problems. LT5 (350ci DOHC V8 with SFI) - used in the 1992-1993 Corvette ZR1 only. One wicked mother. 405hp. This engine was even tougher to work on than the LT1 and LT4 and to top it off, parts were expensive too. Thus the reason it was ditched in favor of the SLIGHTLY better LT4. LS1 (346ci OHV V8 with SFI) - used in 1997-2004 Corvette and 1998-2002 Camarobird. New all aluminum setup saved weight and improved heat dissipation, SFI system combined with Coil-On-Plug ignition took care of the plagues of the LT series. Also used dual cat exhaust system which cleared out the bottom of the engine bay and made it much easier to work on. Rated at 350hp for Vettes and 325hp for Camarobirds. Actually produced 345hp in all applications. This is where the "underrated" reputation came from. LS6 (346ci OHV V8 with SFI) - used in 2001-2004 Corvette Z06 and 2002 GMMG ZL1. Again, wicked cam and high flowing heads made 405hp. Just as easy to work on as LS1. So my car is the LS1 with a custom ground cam from LPE and other supporting bolt-ons that i'm told will give me 420hp at the crank. I'm told by many people that once I get this car tuned properly, I will actually see more around 450hp. So that's exciting. Now comes the problem of how the hell to get all the power to the ground. Money money money. Quote:
