spark plug removal/install question
I was reading the how-to spark plug installation in the how-to section. How does one take the boot off of the plug? Is it a matter of just pulling it off with ones finger? Also when reinstalling the coil is it a good idea to initially rethread it to the bolt? The answers to these questions will probably be obvious once i start it, i just don't want to start the spark plug job and be stuck. Thanks in advance, chris

Be very careful when you remove the plug boot. You may have to just twist a little. Just don't use anything sharp to try and pry them off.

Chris-
just use your fingers to pull off the coils/boots. THat's the best way to make sure you dont mess them up. Mike |

Yes - use your fingers if you can - if it is too tight to get off with your fingers use a long flat bladed screwdriver and pry lightly on the bolt that you loosened on the coil pack.
It should pop off pretty easy. Installation - just line them up and slide them in - there is a recessed hole on the engine and a male section on the coil pack that will line it right up. Push it all the way on by hand then tighten the bolt down. Be very careful handling the coil packs and the wires - they are expensive to replace.

"A little dab'll do ya' "
Don't forget to use a small amount of high temp dielectric tune-up grease on the tip of the plug or boot end.
Makes removing/installing the boots much easier, insures a good electrical contact, etc.

Will the heat of the plug cause the grease to burn? Will this also cause the rubber to break down inside the boot?
