SVXCESS PEARLIE ON ITS WAY TO CANADA!!
Well, what can I say about this that anyone here wouldn't understand. Chris came out to my house about 2:00 on Thursday to pick up the pearlie. He was driven from Arlington, VA by his uncle, (who has a sharp gray MB 500SL with an outrageous pair of straight scavenger dual exhausts aiming out the rear)
When he got there, the pearlie (having been washed, waxed, and detailed) was sitting under the protective SVX car cover. We uncovered it together and spent the next couple of hours getting him acquainted with his new mistress. I gave him a lot of parts (spare TCU, 35 oil filters, 4-5 air filters, 2 sets of platinum plugs, pints of touch-up paint, records, documentation, and a "wedgie") We then headed to the bank to take care of financial matters and had a meet in Ellicott City at Shannon's saloon for drinks and dinner. Present were Ron Mummert, rufus (Mike Wirt), calmone (Bill Morstein) Chris and myself. We stayed until it started snowing and then ignored it. Hell, we were having a MEET, and we had an SVX, and we had ALL-WHEEL DRIVE! We finally left the restaurant, cleaned off our cars said our goodbyes and Chris followed me through the snow to the on ramp onto 29 where we parted company. I will let him give you his reflections and observations on his own. I have talke to him a few times since and he is still quite happy. He spent about 20 minutes on Friday changing the two front belts. I am sure he will love it as much as I did. I asked Bill the origin of his club ID and wanted to know what "calmone" stood for, thinking it was pronounced cal-moan. Bill said that it the correct pronunciation was "calm-one"

Reflections And A Sense Of Deja Vu
I just wanted to share a a couple of feelings that I had on the 20 mile trip from my house to my bank with Chris on Thursday.
In the three years that I had my pearlie, no one other than me has ever driven it; not friends, club members, etc. The only exception are the mechanics who would get behind the wheel to road test it or for routine servicing. That said, it means I have never actually seen my pearlie in motion on the road. But it really seemed strange to be sitting behind the wheel of my SVX (96 polo) and look into the rear view mirror and see my pearlie in motion. I let it come up beside me and pass me so I could see it in motion for the first time. Chris was following me and took digital photos of me along the way and loaded them into his laptop. It was even strange to see photos of the rear of my 96 with me at the wheel, being shot through the windshield of my 92 pearlie. I guess you had to be there...

Between the "DC blizzard", Rufus' directions to Arlington with a shortcut through DC's badlands, & Chris' dying laptop, I was worried the car & Chris would wind up upside down in the Potomac river. Thursday Feb 6th. Picked up the car from John's and ran over to the local watering hole for beer and wings. It appears there was a mini-meet, 4 cars. I'll post the pictures later.
After the snacks, looking outside was the starting of what would be 6inches of snow. Drove about an hour and a half to my uncles, and the car handled quite well. Friday Feb 7th As we checked the service history from John's excellent records, the fan belts were over 50k miles old, so I replaced them in about 20 minutes, but spent over an hour driving around to pick them up, got lost. Plan to Leave for Chicago Saturday morning. Saturday Feb 8th I made it to chicago late Saturday night. Left Arlington VA at 10:20 am, arrive in Elmhurst IL at 10pm. It was great weather and the car drove great. I'm still getting used to driving an Automatic again, and its quite nice not to have to shift. BTW, my Cell phone does not accept text messages as I thought it would, so if you sent me a text message, I DID NOT GET IT. I plan to to leave towards Grand Junction CO on Wednesday morning, so I'll be in Chicago til then. I'm hoping to meet up with Lwin today.

I just got back from a Subaru dealer in LaGrange Il. (Don Wolf Subaru)
They have found what we believe is the vibration, so I'm staying a few extra days to get it repaired. At best, I won't be leaving Chicago until Friday am, so my next stop will be Grand Junction Co. I'll Guess at Mid Saturday.
