HVAC Issue

So I finally got the Pearlie out of the garage & out for a drive last weekend when I noticed an issue with the HVAC system. Initially I was using the vent & noticed the air coming out at my feet only. Later on as the day warmed up I hit the AC & it continued coming out at my feet. Toggled on & off a few times, no change. I swear some years back I had seen a thread on a similar issue, but I can't seem to locate it. Anyone have any insight on this issue?

Re: HVAC Issue

stuck actuator motor or rod for the mix door. Clean and regrease with white lithium or similar.

Sounds simpe enough, only question would be where is that located? I haven't torn the dash apart since I upgraded the head unit years ago (& from what I remember can be quite "fun").

Re: HVAC Issue

No need to tear the dash apart. To the right and "up" of the gas pedal. A bit of a pain to reach, but can be accessed without pulling anything apart.

Even better, I'll be sure to take a look! One last question, if it's a pain to reach, is it easily removable for cleaning & re-greasing or what is the best practice for going about this? Forgive me, I'm more familiar with the electrical aspect of things, I only tackle automotive when I'm feeling brave!

Re: HVAC Issue

When you see it, it will be right in your face. No removal. When cycling the HVAC system, you will see if it is hanging up. I used WD40 to clean and then a light oil. The tracks do get crudded up with dirt. I don't know if grease would be better?

Re: HVAC Issue

Best have someone operate the the HVAC buttons while you lay down under the dash with car running. I had a wire get stuck in mine.

Re: HVAC Issue

Mine had lost a number of teeth, so I had to replace it.

See illustration in the attachement.

Re: HVAC Issue

That is not the piece I had my problem with. Mine was the cam that is attached to the doors by a rod.

Re: HVAC Issue

It's not comfortable, but get your head down near the gas pedal, look to the right you will set the mechanism. It is very cramp but do your best to clean out tracks with a rag or q-tips. Once clean, lubricate the tracks with white lithium grease.

It helps if you have one of those little LED lights that you wear on your head. If you clean it out and lubricate it and it still does not work you might need to replace the motor which can also be done without taking apart the dash.

Re: HVAC Issue

Found it, actually had my 13 year old step son find it (call me a wuss, but every time I'm upside down looking at a car like that I get nauseous, & he's very mechanically inclined). Had him take a look, & a few pictures, he located it on the second try & got it all greased up for me. Test it out & all is well & working again! If I knew how to attach photos (yes, I know, somewhere on here is a thread of how to do that ) I'd add the photo. Thank you for all the replies, they were a huge help! I'm not a frequent poster on here, but when I do it's always a great experience to get the help from so many! Thanks again to all!!

Late to the thread, but yes, there is a thread with photos and instructions buried in the site somewhere. I used it when I had the same problem years ago.

Re: HVAC Issue

Good photo. I hope others find this thread useful in the future. It can be tough searching for old relevant threads.
