I worked on my SVX today

No, really, I did. It's getting a new timing belt, idlers, tensioner, oil seals, water pump, valve cover gaskets, drive belt idlers, power window clip thing...

...oh, and I found a fuel leak today. By the left rear wheel. I can't wait to hunt that down.

Anyway, it was sort of nostalgic. I did the timing belt about 11 years (and maybe 10k miles) ago. I really should have done the water pump at the time.

I took the whole week off work to get that car back on the road. It's been a good three or four years since I've driven it.

Anybody know how to clean mold out of the interior?

Thanks, Huck! Is there a common cause for that puddle of fuel by the left rear wheel? I'm hoping to have everything else done today so I can spend tomorrow on that leak. Well, not quite everything - some parts aren't coming until Friday. I didn't know the drive belt idlers were so crunchy until I took them out yesterday. The car should be a lot more quiet once those are replaced.

It's getting common for the main fuel lines to rust out and start leaking where it comes out of the body and runs to the top of the tank. This is sounding like what has happened.

This happened on one of my previous svxs. Remove the back seat, and cut the leaking pipe under the seat. Then, run a rubber hose from there, down through the floor, and up over the tank to the fuel pump, bypassing the rusty sections.

Cool. I got most of the other work done today, so I can get to the fuel leak tomorrow.

The oil pan and valve cover gaskets are leaking quite badly. I figure, however, those are slightly lower in priority than a bad water pump and a fuel leak, and I only have so much time right now.

Awesome, thanks. I assume that will make sense in about an hour, when I take the back seat out. Is that where the lines go outside the car, towards the left-rear wheel? Did you make another hole in that big rubber plug for the rubber line?

I have to shuffle some things around in the garage first. Those doors are long.

Hey, you have RX8 wheels on your car. Did you have to do anything to get them to fit? I'm hoping to just put my RX8's wheels on my SVX while I work on the RX8's brakes next. That car's brakes have been downright abused for the past four years, and every caliper needs to be rebuilt. I have done a ton of autocrossing in my RX8, and I turned the brakes blue at almost every event. I'd like to get the stock SVX wheels repainted, and the tires on them are twelve years old. They were all flat when I started working on the car on Monday, so I assume they're all square.

You're Mike, right? Sorry, it's been a long time since I've paid this site any attention. I'm terrible with names and faces on a good day.

Yes, I'm Mike. I'm horrible with names, too. Don't worry.

Yes that's where the lines go down through the floor in front of the left rear wheel. I was able to slide the rubber line through the hole where the old metal line was removed. (If I recall, anyway.)

I used some hub rings when I installed the RX8 wheels, but I suspect that you don't really need them. I was just being extra-careful.

Please notice a couple of things.
The clamps that Mike used are Fuel Injection Hose Clamps.
They are far superior to regular hose clamps.
And, use Fuel Injection Hose/Line rather than fuel line!
Regular fuel line is used with low pressure (5-8 PSI) line carburators,
Fuel Injections run MUCH higher pressures, on stock SVXi its 36.6PSI.

Thanks, Tom. I'm aware of those difference, but thanks for the heads-up.

I got the rear seat out and lifted the rear of the car. I think that the hard lines that run over the top of the tank are rusted through. It's possible that it's just the flexible lines that connect the hard lines, but the hard lines are very rusty.

If I'm right, this is very discouraging. It means I have a lot more work ahead of me. It is at this point that I consider very hacky things like bypassing the hard lines and just running rubber lines under the seat.

Just so that you are aware, if you need to drop the subframe, its only six bolts.
Six big @$$ bolts, and let the subframe hang from the struts.
It will give give you the room that you would need to reach into that Pandoras Box.
