High pressure steering hose?

I just received my hose, but it doesn't match what I took off. It seems as if the new part is one long piece. Do I have to take off the other section of piping to the reservoir? Am I correct on this?

Re: High pressure steering hose?

My replacement looks exactly like your new one. My old one was different than the new one but not a 2 piece job like your old one. What year is your car? Does the other end match?

Re: High pressure steering hose?

My SVX is a 1992 LSI. If you look at the photo, you will notice that the new hose is a little longer and ends with metal tubing. On my car, the metal tubing starts where the hose ends with the coupling. In other words, the old hose is 50% hose and 50% tubing. The new one has more hose than tubing. Has anyone experience this? Is this the correct replacement?

Re: High pressure steering hose?

Here is a better photo of my problem. I looked up the parts at subaruparts.com and noticed that there are two different part numbers for the power steering hoses. One is for the later models and one is for the earlier models. I own a 92 but ordered the later version of the hose. My question: Can I still use this hose?

Re: High pressure steering hose?

I used it on my '92. I called Subaru Canada when I got mine and they said it was the correct hose for a '92, it was an updated part.

Re: High pressure steering hose?

Did you have to remove the pressure piping to the reservoir?

Re: High pressure steering hose?

looks like the new hose replaces both the pieces of the original setup.

Re: High pressure steering hose?

Yes, it looks that way Keith. The old piping had to be cut to be remove. I installed the hose and all went OK. As I was inspecting for leaks, I noticed the return hose also has a small leak. What are the odds? The return hose was a pain to get to. Can I pick up this hose at an auto store or do I have to get a loan to buy it from Subaru?
