That's what happened to my car. Bad joint on the shaft. I was intending to sell the car anyways so I wasn't going to put money into it to get it fixed. I drove it ~6 months with bad joint and then it finally failed on me. I have since bought another car.

Interestingly enough, I think my car originated in Syracuse. Must be the winters.

(Edit: Of course it ORIGINATED in Japan...but...you know what I mean.)

This forum is awesome. Thanks, Hocrest.

I'll be under the car with my (far more mechanically savvy) neighbor tomorrow, installing this puppy. I'm sure something will go horribly wrong, but...he's got lots of tools. And a couple welders.

Problem solved; I now COMPLETELY understand what everyone says about the heat shields being a pain, but the SVX now drives better than when I bought it. Shudder-free!

At some point, I'll post a picture of what the U-joint looked like. It was not pretty...and I'm pretty lucky.

I told you that was going to be the hardest part

Glad it worked out, good to meet you the other day. Remember, the Reading meet is coming up in April, hope to see you there.

I have a similar shudder condition in my '96. Had a flush and fill done: small improvement. Added 1 tube of Dr. Tranny Instant Shudder Fixx: additional improvement. Still shuddering. It seems to be more pronounced on the passenger side of the car, accellerating from a stop, in the 5~10mph range.

Am I safe adding another tube of the Shuddr Fixx?

Is it time to start saving $$ for a new XMSN or 5 speed upgrade?

If I get under the car tonight, will it be pretty obvious when I look at it?

Anyone have a pic of what a driveshaft-gone-bad looks like?!

All I've seen have looked pretty much like a normal driveshaft. You'll want to check for movement on the u-joints.
