Please Help me

So, i guess I'm an idiot.

I Tightened up the cables running to the throttle body. I read it in a thread on here (probably misunderstand what was said). now I can't find the thread, and my car is idling funny and starts to over heat.

original problem car over heats at idle (and occaisionally while driving) fixed over heating while idling by slightly reving to approx 1100 rpm and car cooled off.

so I F'ed with the cables some more and It now Idles at 15-1600 at start up and drops off to 1100. car still over heats when driving and temps will go slightly up then slightly down if left at idle.

this may be completely unreleated, but I've (supposedly) had all my engine cooling problmes fixed.... please if anyone has any suggestions.....

thanks in advance

Knoxville SVX'ers unite

Seeing how we have a three day weekend, I'll have some time to work on my SVX. Give me a shout and I'll take a look at some of your overheating (and idle) issues. I PM'd you my cell phone number.

Sounds like you've got the cables too tight, and that is making it idle too fast...

I'm guessing your overheating at idle issue is that the fans aren't coming on....are you sure they pluged them back in after working on your water pump?

Sounds strange ? I'm with Huck are the fans working , and it surely sounds like you turned the bolts on the cables a few to many times! .They only need to take up the slack and this MOD should not change the idle !

after doing the mod it idled at 600-700 and started over heating unless i rev'd it up to about 1200 so im not sure.... my fans work.

atleast they do sometimes. I've seen them working but they may be cutting in and out.

Also, if anyone else has done this mod successfully can you take a picture of where the nuts are positioned when you're done?

so I can check and see if I went to far or something.

The position will be different on different cars, due to variations in the cable...

There needs to be a "little" bit of slack in it or it will make it idle fast.

If it has to be reved up to cool it down, it sounds like a bad water pump, or a partially clogged radiator....and since you just had the water pump replaced, I'd guess the radiator.....

Oil leak

Where's the leak? If it's across the front of the engine (passenger side) it may be the power steering pump resrvoir - the dreaded o-ring mod. I've got plenty of o-rings and I'll help you swap out the seal. Give me a shout in the AM. You'll need a quart of Dexron III (or IV) ATF.

Clogged FLUID passages or clogged AIR passages???

Clogged air passages can be cleaned with a garden hose and spray nozzle. Clogged fluid passages MAY be cleaned with a radiator flush or may reauire radiator replacement.

rather lenghty post sorry
I really need some help on this.

okay so did a coolant flush yesterday.

Drained radiator and overflow tank.

filled with water.

drained

filled overflow tank with water.

filled radiator with a flush product and water.

drove.. immediatley got REALLY hot.

pulled over.

let cool down..

worked fine for about an hour.. started to heat up.. stopped let cool.

drove worked for about an hour. started to heat up.. let cool checked radiator looked low on water(but overflow tank was still full but not draining into radiator.

topped off with water.

drove. for about an hour no probelms..

drove to work this morning (an hour or maybew 1:15) no problems.... drained radiator and overflow tank .. brown green nasty looking.

refilled with water.. and drained again.. till it finally ran clear.

filled overflow with distilled water

poured in water wetter and filled radiator with distilled water.

ran car for 15 mins (slightly higher temperatures than normal)

turned car off let cool.. check radiator slightly low.. refilled

drove car around the block temp gauge went almost all the way up and when i stopped a very strange sound was coming from the water pump/overflow tank. (maybe boiling water)

checked tank water looked kind of nasty like greyish
but was not the least bit warm.

I'm completely lost.
what should I do?

stuff thats been done.

new water pump and all new hose directly attached to it

used radiator.

new thermostats and gaskets
