Unhappy Update news

Well, its better to happen in beta stage than live! I got bad news. The new RAID array (or just think of it as hard drive space) was going to go online Sunday, but was delayed for technical issues. Its a good thing too. Today, the unthinkable happened. Just as information to people that dont know, a RAID array is a series of drives that allow the data or information to be spread out and form a "bit" of redundancy in case of a drive failure. Two drives failed within minutes of each other and all the work was lost. This includes the newest versoin of the operating system, web server, database server, and overall work and configurations. Roughly 20 hours of work by myself and Jim. To make matters worse, even though the drives were new when given to us, Seagate "might" not honor the warranty. When I go to their website to check warranty information, normally it just gives a date and a way to start an RMA if it has failed while under warranty. Well, these drives are under warranty, BUT they were purchased through Egghead and they have filed for chapter. Seagate's website says to contact retailer for warranty. This is not good. There is also a chance that the failures are not the drives themselfs but could also be the RAID controller as well. This is still being looked into and worked on. Needless to say, the upgrade is put on hold for a bit while we see what happened.

Darn it.. if its not one thing... Its another!
