SQL Server

While playing around with my pc, I managed to install Microsoft SQL Server.

What is it?

What does it do?

What should I do?

Take the machine and all the peripherals and box them up, send them to me quick before it spreads - if you don't, people on the island will never speak to you again.

actually...SQL, if you didn't know, is an attempt to create a universal computer language used to request data from a database and get it returned in the format helpful to the task at hand (SQL= structured query language)

SQL server is just microsoft's proprietary implementation of a front end. If you don't need it, then go to the control panel and uninstall through the add/remove program feature. Or if you have a large hard-disk, just leave it alone, it won't do anything to your machine.

SQL Server is a full database server that MS created to compete with Oracle, Informix/DB2 and such. It's pretty decent for small/midsize organizations. No user control what so ever on the system. IMO usable POS.

Unless you need a full DB, you can take it off. Hell, you can take it off, get mySQL and it'll serve you better. I have Oracle 9i installed on this machine and IMO, it's the best Database app out there.

Current market share is that SQL Server takes about 25% Oracle has about 35%, IBM (DB2 and informix) has 30% and the rest is for stuff like mySQL and other SQL databases.

If you want a lesson on SQL, it is first developed by IBM and I can give you a whole day lesson on that.
