Love all this car talk. Really gets the juices flowing, so to speak.
I was in the local Sunaru Dealer (Herndon's Paul Brothers) the other day, and they were telling me that the OUTBACK base model will now be getting the new 3.0 six. Subaru discovered (suprise! ) that the people want the additional HP but WITHOUT loading up with all of the expensive options. Clearly they were not selling as many 3.0 OUTBACK's as they could. As for the WRX STi, the entire Washington, DC Metro area will get only 40 cars - very limited production. The Herndon dealer is "hopeing" to get one. I suspect some "additional dealer profit" will be tacked on to all of the STi's. And personally, I think Subaru will be stepping up to the plate and competing with the BMW's and Audi's sooner rather than later. So Miss Brenda may not be far off. Most of the auto mags feed off od speculation anyway - some good, some bad. Not to say that automobile manufacturers don't put out misleading info. Nah, they would never do that ....And I don't think the boxer engine is going away either. Harry

It may well be that Subaru plans to move into "trucks" with a dual-badged product, i.e., Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe, - see Boone's post/link. |

all of Subaru's cars kept getting heavier, but the hp never changed. major gripe in car reviews is that Subarus (with the exception of the WRX) are underpowered.

It still blows my mind that Subaru can put a "GT" label on their top Legacy....and not put in the new H-6. Our local dealers says they have no plans to do so....all those engines are for Outbacks.
Maybe they are going the "Blitzen" route with turbos later, but a six would be just right to make the GT a nice Interstate cruiser right now. Don

On CAR and DRIVER this weekend the had shots of the twin turbo 3 liter legacy wagon with 350hp. only$ 45,000. I don't care for the body design ,but would love that engine backed by a six speed in a 97 Svx.

re: toyota supra
well, i don't see why it's not possible. the toyota supra stock nonturbo is about the same weight as the svx probably 100-200 pounds lighter and kicks out 220hp. the twin turbo supra kicks out 320hp and both are v6 3.0 liter engines altho inline vs flat/boxers. i went to a subaru dealership recently and saw that the outback 6 cylinder had about 200hp plus or minus 10hp so it's not that far off. just like the wrx sti has nearly 300hp.
question is will that 350hp twinturbo fit in our svx'es? if it would that would be great. |
