SVX mentioned in new "C&D Boost" magazine.

I just picked up this new magazine to read today inbetween classes. It's a new magazine from Car & Driver called: "Boost". It's catch phrase is "Small Cars-Fast Parts".
There's a feature on the Easy Street STi, and it mentions using the SVX tranny.
Pg 80:
"At the end of the season, the team moved to an automatic transmission derived from the heavy-duty four-speed unit used in the barely remembered, defiantly eccentric 1992-97 Subaru SVX coupe (which featured a 230-hp, 3.3-liter flat-six and weighted more then 3600 pounds)."

The magazine seems pretty cool, it has well written articles, and there is quite a bit of technical stuff explained.

I'm glad the editors mentioned the SVX in passing like that. Did they say what modifications were done to the transmission in the 'Easy Street STI'? That'll be pretty cool if our trannies are strong enough to handle that kind of power...

I believe Porter had something to do in this deal. I'm pretty sure he's talked about it before, but i wouldnt doubt his coming in here and explaining again.

The SVX tranny can handle plenty of power, but not heat.

Drag racing applications means that the tranny is used once then cools down. I'm sure they have to make some modifications as well.

No offense, but from reading your signature, it sounds like you beat on your trans.

I have no additional cooler, and my tranny is just fine. (although now it will probably self destruct after saying that.)

i believe that the only mod to the trans in that is the level 10 rebuild.

and yes porter did have something to do with that, he suggested that they use it because they were out of gearing before the end of the 1/4th and had to stop accelerating before they reached the end, and i believe that they still use the wrx transmission but just the svx 3.55 finals, i bet it tops out at around 160-180mph in 4th at redline

It seems to me that the SVX is now starting to get the recognition that it deserves. I like it. I like it a lot. Now if only I would get off my lazy ass and go check out the articles. lol
