Nighthawk 650 is home and starts... almost

Picked up my new addition on Saturday (an 83 Honda Nighthawk 650). Spent the past couple of hours bleeding the clutch and prepping it to start. Well I toasted the battery charge but I got her to fire up and then die. Not bad for a first attempt w/o knowing what was done to the gas. Now I just have to wait for the trickling charger to do its job.

Any ideas other than draining the gas?

Pull the float bowls and use gumout liberally... also, and this could be a pain. Gain access to the slides and spray them and make sure they move up and down like they should. new plugs and 1 teaspoon of oil in each cylinder. After that, it should run fine. If it hunts for an idle speed, sync the carbs.

She's a running. Too bad its snowing. Not a good day for a ride. Besides, I guess I need to get a permit huh. Just a little carb cleaner did the trick. I also changed plugs but the old ones looked fine. Just had to get a 18mm plug socket so got new plugs while I was at the parts store. I guess Saturday will be the day to change the oil and spruce her up. Then RIDE!
