New Radiator?
Hi Gang,
This is a question that I think I know the answer to, but this morning antifreeze was bubling out of the radiator near the top hose area. It looked like it was coming directly out of the plastic. Is there any patches available for plastic radiators? If not it looks like I am buying a new radiator. Still less than a car payment... Thanks,

I used magnum steel on my wife's radiator over a year ago and it is still holding strong.
Sand down the area and rough it up a littlle with the sandpaper to give the epoxy something to stick to. Spread the magnum steel over the area well and smooth it out. Grab a screwdriver and etch "genuine subaru part" into the epoxy before it dries. Let it set overnight and cross your fingers. You can find magnum steel in most auto parts stores. I have tried a bunch of others - jb weld, etc, but magnum steel is the only one that held up.

I thought about using some of the JB Weld that I had at home. I'll run to the parts store and see if they have some Magnum Steel. P.S. I'll make sure and etch Genuine Subaru Part in the epoxy. I 'm sure that's what made the difference... Thanks!

Hi,
My Radiator split on top, the plastic part, it ran about 2 inches but was enough to kill the car. I drilled 2 small holes at each end of the crack, to stop it spreading. Then I put on a product called "Quick Steel" which I got from Kragen. It's like putty and you just push it into the crack. It goes hard in 15 min but really needs to be left overnight to be the best. I did this as a temporary fix but forgot about it. It worked really well. Beware: When it's on and dry, it is very hard to grind or shape. So make it look nice when it's wet! |

I tried quicksteel also. I did not have good luck with it - I'm glad it worked for you.
