low temps..

it was unbelieveably cold last night. i didn't get a temperature reading, but i'd hazard a guess at somewhere around 10 below 0 (farenheit, of course). This morning I went out to my car thinking it would be pretty warm out. The sun was nice and bright and there were no clouds anywhere.. the thermometer in the car said -5 at 10 o'clock this morning. yikes. it hasn't gotten much warmer since.

It's been pretty cold here, too. Cold's not much good without snow though. When I got up, the sky was clear - but guess what?

It just started SNOWING! and HARD!

It hasn't snowed much at all on the front range of colorado. It's just been too dry I guess. Kind of dissapointing. I was looking forward to having some fun this winter.

I love that heat that burns your feet and legs. My friends love it too! None of their cars' heat get that hot. It just takes a while for it to get burning hot

Other side of the world.

While you guys are freezing your balls n tits off. Down here in Australia it's a heat wave, we are having the worse drought in a hundred years.

We have out of control bush fires up in the snow country.! The National Capital is burning, They lost 398 homes down there yesterday with more to go today.

The world sure is a crazy place now days.

Harvey.

Our weather here in Idaho is all screwed up as well. We dont even have a winter going on here. Its more like Seattle but not as much rain. Lots of gray and dreary skys, a bit of rain here and there, high 40s at night and low 40s and some 30s for the day. Normally its mostly 30 or below here and we have snow. Our ski resort here is about to go bankrupt!
I had to replace all 4 of my tires at the end of 2002 and was concerned because I lost my M+S stamped tires. They were replaced with new summer ultra-high performance tires, but I was sure I would have to dish out more money for some winter tires. No need so far. Next year they will have to import our snow

My engine heats up quickly even in sub 0°F temps. The interior heat though will take it's time though. It feels as though I have no thermostat (or stuck open) and the cold antifreeze flows through the heater core right from start-up. I'm fairly certain this is not the case.

The interior heat does seem to match the tranny temp closer than it does the engine temp. In my 10-15 minute drive to/from work in these temps I'm lucky to even see 4th gear and that's without an external tranny cooler.

Unless there is something wrong with your heater core, you might just be low on coolant. I just had this same thing happen over the last couple days, except my coolant was REALLY low. Might be indicative of something more serious as I don't know where it all went.

Basically what happened was the engine heated up real quick, like in less than 5 minutes of slow driving in <10F weather and even goes over the midline sometimes, but I get little to no heat! After driving around awhile, the heat would kick in and out. I guess there wasn't enough coolant to go around. Hopefully, there hasn't been any permanent damage to interior of the engine.

Fires and drought

I have seen some pretty scary pictures in the news Harvey. It reminds me of the fires out west last year. Extended drought + fire+wind= big trouble. Hope the worst is behind you folks....

Check your resevoir once in a while. My car for some unknown reason likes to dump it every so often. And my engine warms up very quickly when driving. I've never had a problem with my heater or over heating though.
