A/C recharge

How can you tell what gas you have in your A/C. I had it recharged about 10 years ago. I thought the Subaru dealer did a change over to the new gas , but I can't tell. Can you tell by the low re-pressurizing valve? HELP getting hot driving around

Re: A/C recharge

Depends how lazy they were. The R12 connectors look like tire valves and should only be on 92's that haven't been properly converted.

A conversion kit should come with new connectors that screw on to the old connectors as well as enough green o-rings to replace everything throughout the system.

Also be aware there are alternative gasses out there that claim to be compatible with both R12 and R134a.

Best bet would be to have an A/C expert check for leaks, vacuum and refill the system.

Re: A/C recharge

I have the quick disconnect . I stopped at the Subaru dealer and asked they did it in 2001. He looked it over and said it was the new stuff. I just bought a refill kit came with a Gage, oil ,stop leak, and all directions etc. After 11 years it may have a slow leak . it was working last summer but not real cold . If it goes out I will take it in . . the compressor is not coming on . Worth a shot at $25.00

Re: A/C recharge

If the compressor won't come on, I think you won't be able to recharge it. You can jump the compressor clutch wire to the +12V on the battery to force it to come on so you can charge it.*

*I would have someone else confirm this first since I'm pretty sure I suck at A/C...

Re: A/C recharge

You don't have to force the compressor to turn. Adding to the low pressure side (if it's low) will trigger the compressor to kick in.

Re: A/C recharge

A/C is working again . Not as cold as it should . They say you have to drive it . So off I go to try it BRB
Makes a world of difference when you are moving . been running for total of 2 hours still cold . Can't be a major leak.

Re: A/C recharge

My workshop has identified a leak in the tube, that goes from the filter downwards under the black cannister and into the condenser at the front.

What is the item no?

Which source of supply is reccommended?

It is an european 1993 with R134a and I am resident in Denmark.

Re: A/C recharge

Is it the tube itself or just the o-rings on either end?

Re: A/C recharge

My 95 developed a leak at the condenser out-let tube. Sounds like yours has the same leak. New condenser.

Harvey.
