You bought a Saab convertible? Saab convertibles are for wimps.

A Kiwi friend of mine in London bought one after selling his TVR [a good mate lost his life in a TVR, they are a bit skittish and unforgiving] Well when I mentioned that Saab convertibles are hairdressers' cars, he was wounded deeply. Your average Kiwi does not like his manhood impugned. . He changed for a Porsche.

Ya gotta tell it like ya sees it.

Re: Just bought car in Denver. Can someone pick me up at the airport?

I'm home. Safe and sound and already in bed. The trip went very smoothly, and aside for a quick 3 hour nap, I was able to drive it straight through.

My impressions of the car:

Fantastic. It has excellent manners on the highway. It's very quiet with the top up. The best seats in the world. It is an absolute torque monster. Keeping it going in a straight line at anything greater than 3/4 throttle is going to take some practice.

Thank you, Ken, for letting me stay at your place. I had a great time, and really appreciate you guys taking me all over town.

The detailing begins tomorrow. Pics to follow!

Funny you should say that about TVRs, the one I just got from out Shelfy's way came off the ramps today with a very loud squeal of the tires (in reverse that is). I called a few locals and informed them that I think I might have found my deathmobile since my vintage motorcycle habit haven't done me in maybe a torque monster TVR (even a 280i) just might. I shutter to think what a 600+ hp modern TVR would be like! Can you start mailing me one in pieces please?

Congrats on the safe trip home Mike! Did you happen to hit any railroad tracks? Just curious how the cowl shake was on it. I'm guessing they would've had to add a little (actually a lot) more rigidity to it compared to the stock 9-3 conv. If you know that RR track in Manheim, when moving Snobs for the auction I would swear the my teeth would still be chattering when I got to the main lot from hitting that thing in a conv. I definately like the color of it too! Every Viggen I remember seeing was that look at me electric blue color. Now you'll be able to eat some Stangs from redlights and confuse 'em too! Just start a good upper body strength workout for that torque steer!

The Viggens have an extra brace to help with the cowl shake, but it's still there. They make a product called the VRK, or "Viggen Rescue Kit." It's a series of braces to help with cowl shake as well as the torque steer.

I originally wanted to find one in Lightning Blue. I also wanted a coupe. Not a convertible. This one came up though at an amazing price. I also went to the Saab dealer in Denver and got all of the service records for the car. It was very well serviced. The previous owner had a new convertible top installed recently, as well as some AC work and a new clutch. It drives great. I'm very happy with it.

Mike
