Hey, I just bought a '92 LS-L that is pretty nice. It is 1 owner with records, silver, all stock. Got it for $1200 and I feel like I stole it. It has some peeling paint on the spoiler, no rust, and some dings and a scrape on the front bumper. Nice inside with only minor wear on the drivers side bolser. Otherwise the only issue is 1st gear from a stop is starting to slip. Any insight on this? I found another tranny and 4.44 gears, however I don't know how difficult this swap is. I've done clutches on fwd cars and don't really want to do something like that again anytime soon. Here are some pics. I just washed it and will buff and wax it tomorrow as I was running out of light.

Re: New member
An excellent buy, and welcome. We (my son) just completed a 4.44 swap following svxfiles written instructions (see bottom of his signature). Having a friend with a shop and lift helped a lot. The tranny swap was straight forward. The rear diff gear swap was a little nerve wracking but when done, we took it to a local performance shop and they set up the ring and pin backlash for $90.00. Commented that we had done a good job. Good luck with your swap if you decide to do it.

Well thanks for the info on the swap. I'll find those instructions and decide from there.

Re: New member
Welcome!
The slipping sounds like the low speed clutch is starting to slip. This can be replaced by most transmission shops without to much of a hassle. Good luck!

Re: New member
You might be able to change the fluid + external filter, and put some Justice Brothers transmission additive in it and it might go away for a while at least. Does it slip if you start off in manual first? (Gear lever in "1" position, don't press the manual button though when you try it, just put the gear lever in 1)
Also a little note on the Manual button, it causes the car to start in second gear IF the button is pressed, and the shifter is in the "2" or "3" position, it works great in the snow. if it doesn't slip in manual first, it's the 1 way sprag clutch that's slipping.

Re: New member
Welcome. My tranny had the same problem. I bought the car that way. I paid 2500 with 95,000. Mine was garaged and mint with no spoiler. If you don't do anything about it will get worse. It lasted me two years. DON'T GUN IT FROM A STOP OR SHOW OFF. Eventually it will shake and shudder. I got mine rebuilt. I wasted 2000 just to fix back to auto. Waste. Get a swap or kick yourself later. Best of luck.

Re: New member
Hi from another new member/owner, kpg. I'm simulatneously having a blast and going a little nuts trying to work everything on my new girl out, but the blast part is faaar outweighing anything else. I keep going the long way to places just 'cause I enjoy driving her so much.
Hope its the same for you, Tania.

Re: New member
Well thanks for the advice. I am pretty sure I am going to do a 4.44 swap as all the tranny shops want to do a complete rebuild and won't just fix the problem it is having. Here are some better pics of the car too. I have some 17" acura tsx wheels on it now but don't like them. Will probably go with 18's. Also wet sanded the lights, what a huge difference! Sorry the car is dirty, it rained all weekend.

Re: New member
I kind of like the rims. I'm curious to see them without the Acura logo on them. Good luck with the Swap.

Re: New member
+2 on the rims! Of course I've always been partial to 7-spokers, but the emblem has to go! Just out of curiosity, what are the specs on the TSX wheels?
Excellent purchase BTW! And the spoiler is very easily detached for repaint. Glenn

Re: New member
Thanks for the comments on the wheels. I plan on bondoing over the acura logo's if I keep them and getting some subaru ones for the caps. I already purchased a wing and swapped it (from SunvalleyRay) so that is taken care of. The TSX wheels are 5x114.3 55et 17x7. I want something a bit wider. I have Toyo Proxes 4's 215/45/17 because I was thinking the early 92's ran 215's but I guess reading now it was the late 97's or something. The tires are about 80% tread, pretty decent. If any of you guys are interested I'd let the set go for $350 plus shipping. One has some curb and another has been repaired but all in all look good and for $350 with some great tires, not a bad deal. I have some really close hub rings, the right ones would be 56.1 onside 64.1 outside. Mine are 63.3 outside and I managed to get them to not vibrate.
