anyone here own a Baja?

I'm kicking around the idea of trading my CL in for a baja. That way i'd have more room to play with when i buy things for my new house. I'm wondering if its worth it to get the turbo with 210HP or if the regular one with 165 is good enough. Any thoughts?

As a former Legacy wagon owner (same generation and front 2/3 or so), U have to ask what you are expecting?

165hp doesn't go a long way with ~3300 lbs. to tug around. For a gauge, the best I could eke out of the wagon (5 speed FWIW) was 17.2 in the quarter.

My GL wagon had, what, 90 horsepower? But then, quarter mile times don't matter much when you're teaching your kid to drive, or hauling hay or firewood.

I keep thinking a Baja will probably be my next Suby purchase.

The quarter time was just for reference.

The reason this is an impossible question to answer, really, is that we need to know what "enough" is!

Enough to move? Yes.
Enough to MOVE? No way.

i had a regular baja for a while. it was fun but it wasnt practical because i didnt have a bed cover and anything older than an 06 the bed covers leak. Mine was great when i bought a new house by after a while it got to be a pain, i couldnt put groceries in it cause of not having a bed cover and if you had a bunch on people with you (they only seat four including teh driver) it was a oain if you went shopping. Its great on gas milage though.

if you really want on get the turbo.

love my baja. I have the www.ozzbros.com cover and it works great. I have used this to haul bikes, downed trees, and most importantly a$$. I would have liked the turbo but i got an NA 5 speed and I am very happy with it. I know the turbo is faster but my last ticket in the baja was for 85 in a 65 so i guess i really didn't need the turbo now did I?

buy a hitch and buy a 5x8 trailer from harbor freight if you need more capacity.

You shared pics of the trees and bikes, why not pics of a$$.

I've driven around my sisters NA 5-spd. I like it, yeah the turbo would be more, but it was sufficient to have fun with and cruise the highway.

My friend has a yellow baja, and he loves it. I've ridden in it and it's nice, comfortable room for 4, and stuff. He doesn't have the cap, but most of what he carry's around is during nice weather, or doesn't matter if it gets wet. I needed power in my truck, to haul SVX's, so a Baja was out for me... Still, as a get around town vehicle it's ok I'd say, but I prefer my legacy wagon.

Baja FTW. I love the Baja's. 5 speed turbo. IMO, Yellow is the best color. I would have loved to see newer gens.

Yeah, I know they don't make them anymore, but I'd never buy new, anyway. The rule is, if I can't afford to pay cash, I can't afford the car.

You're probably right about the comfort factor, though. A friend has both a late model Legacy sedan and Outback wagon, and I'm struck by how confined I feel in them. (And I logged a zillion miles behind the wheels of old GLs and Legacys.) I tell everyone the SVX has spoiled me.

i had to stop 5 times from georgia to maryland cause it was killing my back.

that car is meant for off roading in the mud not road trips. plus mine had lather seats which made it even worse.
