want to keep auto tranny, what can I upgrade to?

Well, I'm just looking to see what is there, and when I search, I don't find too much on auto box swaps except for 4.44's. I don't think I want something TOO aggressive as I would like to keep the top end of the SVX but I would also like to give it some more oomph from 0-80 or so.

Also, is there something I can swap to and not have to change the rearend? I mean, I would prefer not to change, but if I need to I will. So, is there a transmission out there that will fill my needs?

Thanks for any help!

At 6940 engine RPM your driveshaft is turning at 10,000 RPM.
At 10,000 driveshaft RPM your rear tires are turning at 2250 RPM.
Your tires are 24.86" tall, or 78.0999 around.
78.0999 ÷ 12 = 6.50832, X 2250=14812.2 feet per minute,2.80534 miles a minute, or 168 MPH!
That should be enough top speed for you.

So, that's for 4.44's, is it? What kinda rpms are we looking at cruising at 60 in 4th?

Yes.
I have always used the 72 MPH at 3000 RPM yardstick.
but to answer your question about 2500 RPM.

Oh, on the downside, with the 4.44s your speedometer will read about 5.5% higher than the vehicle is going, as i remember. Its late, time to sleep.

If you are serious about upgrading you can get a built transmission from me.
They shift lightning fast, hold more torque than you will ever have, and are essentially brand new.

Thanks Tom. Also, LAN, I have considered your tranny. If I were to get yours, would I need to change the rearend? Do you require a core? What kind of turnaround time can one expect?

That question goes for just a "normal" 4.44 as well. Does work need to be done in the rear, or can I just swap the tranny? Is there any way to get the speedo to read accurately?

LAN sells both stock ratios and 4.44s, (and I believe 4.11s as well.)
With the stock ratio you would not have to touch the rear end.
It shifts quicker and firmer, but has the same ratios.
With a 4.44 if speedometer accuracy is paramount, you could install a 5.5% taller tire negating some of the 37%-25% advantage.
Or Mark5 can finish the speedometer modifing chip boxes he was going to make.
Mark?

I don't need a core from you up front. I charge a $700 core charge. I ship you the built transmission and you ship me back your old transmission in my crate. Whatever is left over of the core charge after deducting shipping and any hard parts if your core has hard parts damage I return to you. I expect the core back within 30 days.

I can obtain and build any ratio transmission. Personally I like the stock ratio but to each his own. Even with the stock ratio a car with one of my transmissions is much faster because the shifts are lightning fast. With the stock ratio you don't have to change anything else.
