Muffler questions
Time to try a different exhaust on the racer since ours is leaking badly and well SVXfiles donated yet another one. Its his old 6 into 1 not so equal length header. It meets in a 3 inch collector. I'd prefer to go back down to a 2.5 pipe if only because I have enough of it here. We need to be muffled by rules (under 93 decibils) so we're looking for a cheaper muffler to put on her. Now we don't have nor ever will have any cats so here are the two I was looking at (hopefully the link works but if not here's the summit part numbers WLK-24215 and SUM-628222).
Now the 1st can go just about anywhere so I'd put it right after the reducer (which would mean less cobbling together). The second would need to go in the stock muffler area and would add weight beyond the wheelbase in the rear. Any thoughts or other suggesting. Must be cheap as 1. I'm CHEAP and 2. Hocrest is CHEAPER!

Ben,
I'm using two of the dynomax mufflers (one for each side) ahead of my two-in-one-out cat. They're quality pieces and I think, as you noted, you'll be able to get the exhaust system up into the trans tunnel to minimize the chance of leaving the exhaust system on the track -Bill p.s. then again, the other one is cheaper

I'm guessing you didn't run then the past two days? If you did how'd ya do? If not. WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL SO I COULD'VE USED THAT SPACE!!! Think we'll run into not enough backpressure issues?

Ben,
Check my "Best of Both Worlds" Thread in the General SVX area - I ran all day Saturday and passed on today as I didn't feel like running on street tires in torrential rain I had a local shop weld them in and they don't appear to have much, if any, step to the 2.5 inch pipe going into the cat. Putting them in raised my "resonance" rpm from ~2500 to ~3500, so the car is much easier on the ears until I get to around 80 mph The stock number you gave is for the 3" in and out version, which is the least expensive "bullet" muffler Summit carries. The 2.5 in/out is actually more expensive because they don't sell as many of them (I know because I actually called Summit because I thought if must have been a misprint on their Web site...) There's not a whole lot to the insides of them, but I still think you'll have enough back pressure to prevent see a drop off in power -Bill
