Are you sure it isn't unplugged? It will give the same error if unplugged.

I also have an extra resistor but I also agree to check it's resistance before buying a new one.

Well I drove the car a little more over the weekend and it has no 2nd or 4th, so will the adjustment still help? Thanks Damian

Yes well that makes more sense, Damian. The brake band is slipping bad. Try the band adjustment, if it is not too worn it may come good. Take it to the tranny shop get them to adjust it In the mean time, use the gear lever to take off in 1st, then change to 3rd, miss 2nd and 4th completly to save whats left of the band.
