rear engine fan?

Does anyone know anything about the small fan on the back of the engine? during the snow storm I hit a curb. Since then I hear a clicking sound right at the location of this small fan. It goes faster according to the speed of the idleing. On highway speeds, it goes away. Any idea what this could be? Can I get to this part?

That's mean! Funny but mean. Could you give a little more detail on where the sound is coming from?

rear engine fan

I'll take a picture of it this weekend. The sound is coming from the back of the engine. If you look very carefully, there is a small fan under all the surface contraption. A mechanic told me the name of this fan, but I forgot it. I was told that maybe the frame around it shifted. Anyone ever have this problem? Thanks for any reply.

Do you mean the flywheel/flex plate or maybe the torque converter? You may have cracked the flex plate or broken one of the bolts.

rear engine fan

You are correct. It looks like the flywheel/flex plate. It's not a fan after all. Could hiting a curb damage this part? Can I change this myself? Or do I have to bring it in to a machanic? In the mean time, is it ok to drive with this? remember, it only sounds when it's at a stop. It goes away as soon as I start driving. Thanks for your feedback.

Flex Plate

Hi Dannmarr, I had the same noise two years ago and went ahead and drove to "Reading" with it after being assured it would be okay. I later had it replaced. You have to separate the engine and transmission. It is where the clutch would be on a manual transmission car. You could do this yourself if you have the equipment to support the tranny safely. Otherwise, see your mechanic.Take care, BOBB

P/S Several owners asked me what that noise was as they had the same noise. "B"

rear engine fan?

I brought my car to three different transmision mechanics. All of them agree, the sound in my engine is a loose bolt in the torque converter/flywheel plate. Thanks for all your inputs!

Can you record the sound and post it? I'd like to compare it to my noise.

(I'd record mine and post it but 1: I don't have the equipment; 2: I'm too broke at the moment to buy the equipment)

i had the same thing happen when i hit this car at a stop light.
after i hit the car i had a bad click nouse from the back of the engine. it turn out to be the plate that blots right on to the torque converter the plate broke in the center around the 6 bolt holding it in. after that i did it again but the thing was under warrnety. and there is no stronger replacement for it all you can get is the stock one.
