ABS cable

Hey guys!

Wow, I haven't post here since a good two year! My SVX has been parked the whole time and it's now time to take good care of it.

My front driver side ABS cable has been cut and I remember having a ABS code in the cluster and the ABS has been disable since.

I would like to know how hard is it to change that cable. Is it like changing a brake line without bleeding the system after? What's that ABS cable route? Is it really long and going all the way to the ABS module under the hood (aka I have to remove everything in the car)?

By the same way, what should I expect to pay for that cable used?

Many thanks for your time!

Re: ABS cable

It passes through a grommet behind the strut and then there is a connector just inside the engine bay.

The tough part is where the sensor attaches to the hub. There is only one 12mm bolt holding it in place. Unfortunately it's most likely rusted in there pretty good. If you get the bolt out without snapping, the sensor is usually seized into the hole.

I've never removed one without destroying it, but you can probably find one from a southern car.

Re: ABS cable

The wheel sensor and wire are one unit. If the wire in the wheel well is cut, you will need a new sensor for that wheel. Those sensors can be a PITA to change if they are original/the car has any rust underneath.

Re: ABS cable

Thanks everyone!
That gives me a good idea of the upcoming job.

I'm pretty sure that the hardest part will be to find a good used sensor or to get rapped at Subaru for a new cable.

Does anyone know if we have to reset any kind of computer to make the system work properly after the installation of the new cable?

Cheers!
