If your thinking about giving the dude $500 for nothing your not from the same part of Jackson I am

Finish the deal. chalk it up to a learning experience, once you get the car take it to someone you, or certain members on this site that are trusted. After you asses what you got you have options of parting, reselling, or fix it and keep it.

Don't part it thou. These cars wont rise from the parted grave, thinking about the numbers of non-existent cars frieghtens me

Re: Would this SVX be a good buy?

Same thing happened to me. Got into the car, thought it ran great, payed the man his money and with in 3 weeks of buying it I was neck deep in things I had to fix. It needed a coil on the farback lefthand bank of the motor. It needed new exhaust and the tranny was just about to give out. I've learned since then that these cars are not cheap. They need alot of maintance to keep them running, and they eat whatever you've got in your wallet. On the other hand, they are incredable cars that will run forever, once you got them figuered out. I do all the work on mine and i'm glad to say the tranny i swapped in hasnt yet given me any guff and the car has been running great for the last 15,000 miles. I think if you take the car and put a manual tranny into it you will fall head over heals for the darn thing and you'll never want to get rid of it. The engine is the strong point for these cars, they really, with proper maintanance, run for ever!! Good luck with you're endevour!!

Re: Would this SVX be a good buy?

After tallying it all up, here's all the problems I've found with the car...

Electrical
Climate control activates defogger function on big bumps, or if you smack the side of the control panel.
Transmission shifter panel lights out
Driver side seatbelt does not move out of the way when you open the door
Rear speakers blown, and the supposed Polks in the doors are non existent
A/C
Major freon leak at the accumulator, needs be replaced and recharged with 134a
Transmission
When the pedal is floored in 1st, it does not shift to 2nd at redline. It continues to increase RPM until you let off on the gas. Ends up in 3rd after letting off.
Reluctant to go into overdrive at cruising speeds.
