ECU Error Code #33 (Speed Sensor #2)

Good Afternoon Fellow SVXers,
I have a quick question... the other day my pop's SVX pulled a CEL (Check Engine Light) on him and ever since then his speedometer doesn't work PLUS the radiator fan turns on as soon as he switches the ignition to the ON position, even when the car is cold.

I went ahead and followed the great instructions found on SVX-IW and received an error code #33:

[33:::Vehicle speed sensor 2:::No signal from vehicle speed sensor 2]

I proceeded to clear the code, then I turned on the car and took it around the block. The problem is obviously NOT solved, but at least now the CEL is gone and surprisingly the FAN will no longer run at all times.

Do you guys have any idea on where should I start looking?

Thank you in advance as usual.

-Walter

On US and JDM SVXes, speed sensor #2 is in the front diff. You will find a three wire connector down the back of the engine, near the front diff dipstick.

This is the sensor that drives the speedometer.

Hopefully all that needs to be done is put in a replacement sensor.

Thank you for the replies guys. I just visited subaruparts.com: is this the speedometer that you are talking about?

[85082 | $151.32 | Speed sensor assembly]

Additionally, is there any possible connection you guys can think of between the Radiator Fan being ON at all times and this issue?

Thanks again,

-Walter

PS= does anybody have a used speed sensor they're willing to sell me?

That looks like the one. The full number is 85082PA010.

I'm betting you could get away with the sensor from the 2002 WRX 5MT part# 85082AE000 for $57.85 from subaruparts.com. Anyone else tried this? I can verify the opposite works.

not sure about that Dave... It will work with the wiring but nt sure if it will actually fit in the SVX auto... Maybe someone who had a wrx 5mt sensor fail... did u replace it with the SVX sensor?? I have an extra but am a little reluctant to sell it.

Tom

hmmm, not sure what we did with the WRX sensor when it failed. It's possible I put it in the SVX 4EAT so I wouldn't lose it.
