They told me that it wasnt retracting and thats why i need a new one. I'm going in for a second opinion this week sometime. If i need a new caliper i think i will go to auto zone to get it.

I just did the back brakes on my 94. I have never done it before and it was a breeze. I thought that I needed a new caliper because my rotor was glowing orange one night. Now that's hot.
I found detailed step by step instructions in the on-line 92 shop manual. If you've never done it, they're well worth downloading. My caliper retracted just fine, so I didn't replace it. I might later if the problem reoccurs. It looks easy. I can confirm that autozone has calipers for about $50 without pads and $75 with pads. |

75 dollars with the pads included or 50 for the caliper and 75 for pads? If its 75 for the caliper and pads thats one hell of a deal.

I was searching the autozone parts catalog and it seems they have alot of things for the SVX. At least more than i expected and all for a decent price i could afford.

Of course that is $75 each ot 150 for 2. If you only need to replace ont caliper, then $50 for the caliper and 75 for a et of pads is, of course, less by $25. If you replace both calipers (not a bad idea even if one is not bad), getting them pre-loaded is $25 less.
Not quite the "deal" I think you were referring to but one can save $25 ny doing it optimally. Quote:

Still - for another $25 you can replace both and not have to worry about the other one again.
How are your rotors? If you have no pulsing in your pedal, and the thickness is over 1 inch, you don't have to touch them. If they need to be resurfaced, the minimum final thickness is 1 inch (or is it 25 mm? no matter there isn't enough of a difference). Quote:

The stupid shop i went too said i had grooves in my rotors but i dont feel any vibration or pulsation. They said I dont feel it now because my pads are very low. They said with new pads i would probably feel it. I was thinking about taking it to my regular mechanic tomorrow and telling him my brakes are making noise and see what he says....but he would only know if i need a new caliper if he puts the new pads in or somethin. And then i would end up having to pay for labor if i declined the job if he said i needed a new caliper. I think my best bet would be tomorrow to order the caliper and a set of pads..and going to him with it for the install.

Here are the exact prices from Autozone:
Caliper only (no pads) is $50.99 plus a $70 core charge. They refund the core charge when you bring in the old caliper. Caliper preloaded with pads is $76.99 plus a $90 core charge. So you are paying about $25 for the pads. These prices are per wheel, not per axle. My calipers were OK so I just bought a set of pads. They were $18.99. This included pads for both wheels. Bill |
