Free money - really

I have lost electrical power for EVERY named storm coming within two counties of me since 1988.

Jeanne is actually touching my county, so it seems like a no brainer to me that I'll lose it again.

Here's the money deal: I will send $5 to the person who guesses closest to the date/time I lose power. In case of a tie, the winner will be awarded based on how long you think I'll be without power.

Just to calibrate, for Francis, I lost power about 30 minutes after landfall (and Jeanne is predicted to come in at about the same spot). Also, I was without power for roughly 8 days.

OK, so anyone who wants a free 5-dollar bill, post a date/time of power lost, and a date/time of power restored (the latter is for tie-breaking only though). Of course the winner will be required to provide a mailing address.

Good luck and please remember I will be without power so don't expect the winner to be announced too quickly.

well TE1221, look at it this way - even if you don't want the money - you have the prestige of having the closest guess (so far) of any of the forum members - and that's priceless trading goods.

I'll guess landfall at 11 PM tonight and your power will go at midnight.

If I win, save the 5 for a mop or duct tape or a tarp, OK?

In the interest of full disclosure, my wife has bet on 8:05AM on the 26th (Sunday morning). However, she says if she wins I gotta give her $20 - apparently thinks the fiver isn't worth her time.

That's because she knows the cost of cleanup supplies!

Don wins !!!!!!!

Landfall was around midnite, but my power was itchin'' to cut off, so we lost it 4 hours before landfall (8PM on Saturday). BTW, my wife was closest in the family and she says she doesn't care if Don wants the money or not (I've already had to pay her)

Family is all fine, as well as all the vehicles. House didn't do so well. roof went down to bare wood, raining to beat heck, so we lost part of the interior ceiling - every room has water damage of some sort, fence in very bad shape (most of it is down on the ground). Florida Power & Light is projecting I get power back on 8 Oct this time.

Don, If you change your mind on the fiver please send me your snail-mail address & I'll put it in the post.

Pic of ceiling attached to give you an idea of what fun we had here. I still think my wife was looney tunes for staying, but we would have sustained more interior damage if I hadn't have been there to fill & dump pails, etc. I estimate about 35 gals of water came through in that section alone - long sleepless nite.

Imagine that

I miss landfall by an hour, and the power by 4 hours, and still win.
Well, there weren't many entries....

No, keep the $5 Lee, and the next time Jean (not the hurricane) and I are in the area....maybe in December....we will take you and your wife out to dinner. From the looks of that ceiling, you will have enough on your hands for the next month or so.

So glad that you guys are OK....it looked like you were getting hit SO bad on the radar....you were in our thoughts constantly.

Now I hope you have a good insurance agent!

All the best....Don and Jean
