What is this?

I've been trying to ID this part on the firewall. A previous owner tapped into the wires going in or out of this thing for an alarm system.

Here it is

Ok now explain to me why someone would tap into the wires on this part for a security system?

The person tapped into all the wires with diodes all connected to a single wire.

(I've since removed the extra junk as you can tell from all the black tape around the green wires in the pic)

not a clue, but here's some guesses:

remote starter (needing a tach input)
wanted to find a wire that was hot when the engine was running
trying to make some sort of a starter interupt

edit: I'd look into some of that liquid electrical tape or liquid plastic used to dip scredriver handles in - to try and get a better water-proof coating on the wires, then tape them up
