knocking noise from the engine bottom
i recently bought my svx
and i just realized this knocking noise at high RPMs you can't hear it from the inside but in idle (600rpm) you can even feel it on the brake pedal the noise can easily be heard from under the car (front) it becomes faster at higher RPMs...didn't go away even at 3000 as i said i recently bought it so i don't know what gas octane rating she's been using or what kind of engine oil it has but it has done only 200 miles in the last 8 months i took a video of it but when i play it back, i can't even hear the noise!!! weird should i change the oil and other stuff or do i need to take her to a mechanic? |

Re: knocking noise from the engine bottom
Could be the engine? Or it could also be the flex plate between the engine and tourque converter.

Re: knocking noise from the engine bottom
it goes away when i move
and when i put pressure on the steering wheel(turn it hard and fast) there is one other squealing knock from the timing belt area and this other metallic like knock when i idle it at higher speeds too much to handle myself...i'm gonna take her to a mechanic |

Re: knocking noise from the engine bottom
It could also be a hydraulic lifter. Try to feel on each side of the engine.
If this is it, it needs more thicker oil or a new lifter. Are there oil in the servo pump? Is the steering wheel pumping? |

Re: knocking noise from the engine bottom
so in order to keep the forum a little less crowded, i post here:P
the engine is causing me lots of problems and it's getting worse every day 1:trouble starting it up...the starter sounds real good but it doesn't fire up in less than 4 seconds...even when i press the pedal all the way, doesn't do much and when it finally starts it makes lots of smoke...looks like water vapor but smells kinda like burnt oil&water vapor 2:want to change the timing belt next weekend(finally!)...any last min tips? good belt brand?! 3:there is this new ZZZ ZZZ ZZZ sound from the engine (totally audible from the exhaust) I'll post a vid of that tomorrow 4:i took the knock noise to a mechanic friend of mine...he said it's from the exhaust and nothing serious! trust or recheck? 5:warm air is coming down my feet...AC is off obviously! other than the engine, everything is working and i'm actually very pleased with the transmission! which is odd! but i was thinking that all these problems happened in the first 200 miles i drove it!!! am i doing something wrong?! i could use every single advice on all of those so don't hesitate:P |

Re: knocking noise from the engine bottom
I have the aarm air thing by my feet too I just figured it was from the vents
I have an intermitten lifter tick...it sounds like it is comkng from the back of the engine when you are outside the car but when u pop the hood and really listen it is coming from the cylinder heads...does it happen all the time? Or does it go away sometimes? Mine goes away when it gets hot and some days it just doesnt happen

Re: knocking noise from the engine bottom
1. starts hard and smokes, burnt oil/water, suond like you may have head gasket issues
3. zzz zzz zzz.........no clue without hearing it??? 4. mechanic freind says exhaust, how good of mechanic is he, do you trust his judgment? why don't you guys help me? is it too complicated the problems i have? or you're just tired of me!.................wow settle down, there have been several replys to your problems, sometimes we don't know! Good luck with your SVX they are good cars with a few quirks, sounds like you got a fairly good one, be patient with it and get it figured out and ENJOY!......................G

Re: knocking noise from the engine bottom
Some things are hard enough to diagnose when you are standing right there let a lone 3,000 miles away, The guys on here are the best. Better than you would get at your local dealer . Most dealers didn't work on enough SVX cars or the mechanic has retired or left . Be as descriptive as possible . BTW putting your foot to the floor usually won't help as this is a fuel injected car no choke. How old is the gas, are u sure it is not contaminated? Ever did a compression test? How are the plugs? All the coils in good shape and connected. Any loos or cracked vac lines?
I just re read all the posts . So how many miles on this car? What year? your not giving them much info .Where is the video you promised ? A little help here on your end . Last edited by Conn SVX; 09-01-2011 at 08:22 PM. |
