i got into running 2 miles everyday, I had way more energy and felt a lot better, but I stopped doing that due to lack of time and money, I would run the streets by my house, but it really isnt the same as being at a gym.

Have you ever tried running two miles in 12.5 minutes? That's when you know you're really in shape

I keep my arms in good shape by opening the SVX trunk a couple of times a day. One of these days I'll probably replace the support struts and I guess I'll have to join a gym then.

Cut back to 3 days a week at the gym from 5 last month as I discovered my 170 pound frame was "over-developing" in certain areas.

My MB ride is a Stumpjumper FSR XC. Rode earlier this summer, but bet I've lost my "bike butt" by now. Hiking has taken priority.

Golden Oldie

Cyclists. Man I love this place.

When I can (which, this summer, has been very seldom - due to roofing my house - alone) I ride a Rans Rocket recumbent. 42 speeds. Two chain rings and a Sachs 3X7 rear hub. Hydraulic brakes. It's my second recumbent. The first was a Ryan Vanguard, which is without a doubt the most comfortable ride ever created. It's also the slowest. (But ten years ago I did the RAIn on that bike - Ride Across Indiana - 162 miles in one day - ten hours and twelve minutes.)

My MTB is a '89 Raleigh Mono-stay. It came with power-rings (long gone). Remember those?

I also ride a 26" trials bike (actually a Mongoose beater with a small frame) and a unicycle.

My daily workouts just consist of pushups and pull ups. Wife got me an indoor rock-climbing trainer thingie which is mounted above a wide door and enables several different grips.

Recumbants are strange. I've never ridden one, don't think I ever will either. Something about them just seems 'not right'.

Cool for you though.

Yeah, that's kind of how I felt before I had any experience with them, too. And you're correct about one other thing. It's just not right that I can ride a century without having a numb crotch, sore neck, and throbbing wrists, back and shoulders. And it's worse yet to realize that I'm looking straight out at the world rather than being mezmorized by the white line. There really shouldn't be any joy in cycling. When I think of what I'm doing to myself (spoiling me), it just makes me want to cry.

Recumbents are strange. It's funny, that's what a lot of people say about my SVX.

Great for you though.

I didn't say they were BAD, I just said I don't want one. Change is bad. Ba-a-a-a-a. The real reason I don't want one is:

1. I like mountain biking
2. Jumping curbs in a recumbant would be...eh.. not good
3. I don't have a house to keep it in
4. I don't have money for one
5. I'm not THAT eccentric. Yet.

- Ca$h

PS: My old boss got one... man, he sure got beat up trying to learn how to ride it.

1. Me too. Actually, I like all kinds of biking. I gave up a CF road racer to get my first recumbent, and even though I'd probably never ride it (well . . .), it sure would look good over the mantel.
2. Right. It's not so great on a unicycle either - at least for me.
3. Good point. They tend to leave if you keep them parked outside.
4. You can actually get a decent quality recumbent for about the same price as a decent quality MTB these days. And now that BikeE has gone the way of the dodo, new copies of those can probably be found for a song. Well, maybe two songs and a jingle.
5. Check again.

I've had touring riders with thousands of miles try to ride the Vanguard, only to give up after feeling (looking) like complete, uhm, inept guys. I've also had twelve-year-olds get on and practically track stand it, looking like pros. (When that happens, you start wondering if you'll ever get your bike back.)

Change is bad? You saying cash (sic) is better?
