New airbag new wheel?
Is there any other model Subaru that has a steering wheel that fits into an SVX?
Like how the WRX Momo fits into the 99-01 Impreza. Links to any successful swaps...

Quick answer
Quick answer - all legacy, imprezas (including WRX) and SVX steering wheels are interchangeable - from a splined shaft point of view. Small differences in wheels may require some slight modifications to the donor steering wheel.

Airbag
The airbag is a completely different animal - I don't know of anyone that got the donor airbags wired into the SVX circuit.
My WRX steering wheel came without a bag altogether so I never tried to hook it up. My problem was trying to get the airbag light to go out by simuating the presence of the airbad with a resistor. I never did get the light to go out, so I removed the light. My wife is only 5'4 and sits so close to the bag that if it were there and would go off, it could do serious damage. I believe in belts and my family won't drive without them , but the airbag is supplemental to the belts and IMHO can do my wife more damage than good. Consider that the SVX airbags were designed at a time when the standard was stopping a 200 pound, 6' man, so they're not ideal for shorter and lighter humans. |
