LOTR needs a thread all by itself.

Here it is.

Being a second shifter (?!), I won't be able to see TTT until Saturday. Several area theaters had the first showing last night at midnight. Oh man! What I would'a give ta seen it.

So, is LOTR going to turn into a cult dress-up thing like RHPS? I can just see it - nine (or so) straight hours. YESSSS!

We were talking about this a bit in the "other thread" and I heard someone on the radio talking yesterday that when all is said and done, with the "extended editions" the triolgy will actually approach 12 hours!

The extended "FotR" of course is out on DVD now (at least in one members opinion MUCH better than the theatrical version) with 30-40 mins longer and "tTT" extended DVD just got out of editting with about the same amount extra. I can't wait for my wife to open her Christmas present so I can watch the extended FotR!!

A number of my coworkers skipped the first DVD release so that they could buy the 'Wanker Edition' with 4 total discs.

And then last week, at Media Play, I found a version boxed with two book-ends and a total of five discs...

...so, okay, when all three movies have been released and a box set is for sale, it'll be a 25-disc set and come with an actual cast member to change the discs for you.

I've always been kinda a movie geek (used to make "above average for amateur" home movies, to the level that some were even shown in small public settings. This was back with VHS and no computer editting gadgets either). Anyway, I really love the whole DVD thing with all the extras, behind the scenes, etc, cause I find all that stuff interesting for some reason. And if there are any deleted scenes, extended versions, anything a director filmed and couldn't put in a movie because it would be rated to strictly or too long for this generation of movie goers, I LOVE to be able to see that.

Still waiting to see if they will ever come out with the supposed 5 hour version of Braveheart, if it really exists that is.

Anyone see the "Director's Cut" of Pearl Harbor? Wasn't the best movie, IMO, but the big attack scene itself was very good. I didn't see that movie until soon after Sept. 11 last year (it had managed to stick around a couple theaters that long) so it was especially effective and eerie to see some of the similarities in America's attitude, etc. Anyway, the extended DVD takes the battle scenes to a whole new level (it is rate "R" rather than PG-13").

Sorry for going OT, I'm used to that other thread.

I'm one of those wankers waiting for the boxed set with the bookends to come in the mail any day now And I skipped the first DVD release in order to buy the "wanker" edition

Go ahead Troy...you can call me out by name. Just you wait until you see the extended version. It answers so many questions that a viewer would never know the answers to unless they read the books. It almost makes up all the bastardization done to the books due to time and marketting limitations of making it into a movie.

I read them about 33 years ago.

discovery channel or A&E (I forget) had a program about the books and how in WWII people thought there was an allusion to Hitler. When I read them it was Vietnam.... what's the draw this time around (Saddam or his Bin buddy)?

Great movie! It's amazing how it's like "Wow, that was only three hours?" Can't wait to finish this off with RotK.

notes - Oliphants and Ents are way cool but needed more of them. Gollum/Smeagol is a comedian. New Zealand is one of the coolest places on Earth.

If you really are Buzz Lightyear, you could be just playing with our emotions.

Or do you turn into Santa round about this time of year??
